I have been working at Gem Plumbing & Heating full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have had the pleasure for working at Gem for over 7 years. Management is fair, and takes an interest in job development by sending me to many trainings. I feel I am always treated with respect by my managers and co-workers. There is a great family atmosphere.

    Cons

Every place needs improvement, but I always find that my managers are constantly looking for new ways to grow and change. If I offer advice, or bring a problem to management's attention, they work with me to solve it.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing a great job!

I have been working at Gem Plumbing & Heating full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Family atmosphere................................ most people are nice, clean work environment, there's a 20 word minimize for the pros section but that's about all I can say nicely

    Cons

Management doesn't listen to others ideas, it's their way or the highway. Salaries suck. Stress is sky high. Must work when they want (hellooooo you're burning people out!!!!!!!!!)

    Advice to Management

Job shadow execs of other companies, you're in for a rude awakening..

I worked at Gem Plumbing & Heating full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Like I said, they pay well. Good benefits. Most of the employees are good people.

    Cons

No loyalty to hard working employees. They expect you to work till your fingernails fall off and charge customers almost twice what the going rate is normally.

    Advice to Management

Try to treat your workers like people and not assets.

I worked at Gem Plumbing & Heating full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only good thing about this company is you may get a free T-shirt once a year other than that there's nothing good to say about them!

    Cons

I worked for them for 2 years, and you would think a company of their size there'd be one plumber who knew what they were doing right? Nope they don't. One job I was on the foreman (for gem) didn't even know how to run a proper wet vent.

    Advice to Management

Stick with the service side of plumbing, new construction you's don't have a clue.

I worked at Gem Plumbing & Heating full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Gemma's are approachable, however i dont think they care,
There are a couple honest tech's to learn from.

    Cons

in my last year of my apprenticeship they gave me a truck and had me driving around by myself running calls which is fine i felt i was ready but when i asked for a raise they said "well lets see how you do" i was selling jobs for profit and doing well my manager rode with me one day to see how i was he said i did a good job so a couple months later i wanted the raise they promised and they gave me a $1 i was making $13 an hour and doing the same work as guys making twice and not all were licensed i felt disrespected and when i found another job is when they wanted to give me the raise i deserved it was too late, i have worked with 2 other companies since gem was grossly underpaying me and by far the worst company.

    Advice to Management

my advice to management get rid of the dishonest technicians you have, you know who they, unfortunately at Gem they are the ones who are taken care of there, they grossly take advantage of customers lack of plumbing knowledge

    Pros

They are flexible with time off. Co-workers are close-knit and friendly. A constant learning experience, and you will never be bored.

    Cons

The salaries are below industry average, and sometimes you are expected to put your personal life on hold. Stress is also the norm.

    Advice to Management

Need to not be so afraid to tell employees they are doing a bad job. People need to be reprimanded in order to fix what they are doing wrong.
