    Pros

Good pay, high tech, hardworking coworkers

    Cons

Company culture, treatment of contractors, training

    Advice to Management

Everyone who worked there was so bitter and petty.. from contractors to blue badges. Try finding a way to eliminate toxic culture.

I have been working at Genentech full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and boneses. Friendly environment and supportive with an emphasis on safety.

    Cons

There have been changes to schedules in several departments and poor management in others, causing employees to leave. Due to a hiring freeze, the positions are not being back filled.

    Advice to Management

The work life balance was great when shifts were 12 hours and 3/4 days a week, which also allowed for 24 hr manufacturing. Some areas have been switched to 5 days a week, but in a manufacturing facility having scheduled weekends off is absolutely not feasible, the process is too variable. As a result, people have been asked to work over their weekends every single weekend since the scheduling change. Employees are burnt out working 7 days a week in managements effort to cut overtime, and thus cut employee pay.

I worked at Genentech full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Three weeks of vacation starting out. But that's as much as you'll get. If you last six years, you get those three weeks plus a 6 week sabbatical. Sick time off is paid and limitless, practically speaking. In my time there every single person in my department missed at least one entire week of work by being sick, save for one guy. You call in sick for a week? No one bats an eyelash.

    Cons

Politics galore. Good ol' boy networking, politically correct style. Wages are artificially held low by a ridiculous algorithm referred to as The Curve. If you complain about your wage or your raise, you are referred to The Curve as the culprit. When you are new you get the largest raises; when you are seasoned, you get pennies per hour as raises. Also, they have to pick people to not meet expectations during review time, which means someone will have to take the knife in the back and give up the pitiful bonus and raise for the year. Management is deceitful, duplicitous, and arrogant. There is a lot of pretend and role playing, things said and done for appearance's sake alone. Competition between departments for raises and promotions is cut throat by design, but on the other hand they'll tell you we are one team.....from what I heard in my time there, things started to go south when Roche bought them out. Before Roche, it was a delightful company to work for. Now? Well, it depends on who you know and how well you can play that hideous game. I wouldn't go back to work for Genentech at twice the hourly wage I made there. Not ever.

    Advice to Management

Quit your jobs and keep quitting your jobs until Roche lets you be thinking, feeling human beings again.

I have been working at Genentech as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great compensation commensurate with the intensity and responsibility. Money rarely seems to me an issue, patient safety and supply are the drivers.

Exceptional people work here, which is great to work with.

    Cons

Project time lines can be escalated which increases the amount of work and stress in a short period of time.

Not many people can handle the workload and responsibilities. Surrounded by exceptional people, so if you aren't of caliber it will be noticed.
