I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. strong, innovative and profitable business. 2. great and hard working people. 3. broader responsibilities, great place for resume builder

    Cons

    1. not a rewarding culture, no storm no bonus no matter what, while the company has been profitable. 2. not competitive pay. 3. high employee turn over rate.

    Advice to Management

    1. Generac will be a great company, but needs to face the reality that competitive pay is playing a significant role of recruiting and retaining talents, who could bring long term and sustainable shareholder values. 2. no storm no bonus pattern needs to change. 3. everything else has been great, especially in investing in core technologies.

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are friendly. Cafeteria onsite but most likely because you are too busy to leave and go out for lunch. Pay and benefits are mediocre.

    Cons

Lots of turnover. They can't keep people and the good people that are staying are getting overworked and burned out. It would be appreciated if managers encouraged employees to take a full lunch and leave for work on time at 5. The stress of being overworked and working late all the time unpaid (salaried) makes it difficult to enjoy life outside of work. Show employees they are appreciated. If you can't provide raises, if we are working overtime consistently how about give us a few extra vacation days. Show us that you appreciate us not spending time with our families after 5:00 because we are sitting in our cramped cube working away unpaid.

    Advice to Management

Fix the culture and focus on morale. If morale improved we will want to stay and even refer people we know the to company. There are several companies closer to Milwaukee that encourage employees to work from home more, casual dress, or will let them leave at noon on Fridays occasionally. It makes a big difference in how an employee views the company. Those are the kinds of incentives people talk about when someone is looking for a job.

    Pros

Quarterly bonuses if goals are met, company is growing leaps and bounds- it is a stable company. Many good people to work with.

    Cons

Hiring nightmare-can't get people in the door, people are leaving for more money, there's always more work to do than time in the day. There aren't enough resources. Quality is preached, but not practiced.

    Advice to Management

Many other positions need to be filed other than your top eight. You are losing good candidates because you can't get out of your own way. HR has too much power. It should be up to the managers to decide on pay.

I have been working at Generac Power Systems as an intern

    Pros

-Ability to formulate and improve business process and see first hand their effect on the business
    -Flexible with school scheduling
-Good first-hand experience in manufacturing and processes involved from raw material to end product
-Good resume building cross-functional interaction between production control, engineering, quality assurance, purchasing, and machine operators
-People generally want to succeed and help move Generac forward where they can
-General training overview helps interns get a better understanding of Generac and its business model

    Cons

-Lack of business process documentation and structure- daily responsibilities are all over the place with little structure
-Long work days within a lot of areas that are in need for process improvement
-New SAP software introduction to the company was not as smooth as people had hoped
-Lack of communication between departments and even more so between Generac facilities
-Due to SAP new role out within the business, many departments make incorrect assumptions on how to interact with the software (due in part) to the lack of/spotty training
-Communication between sales, operations, and design is trained when each department is unaware of how the other department operates (assumptions are made and when wrong, hurt production output)- silos are bad!
-Inefficient or outdated processes are a bottleneck to operation effectivity
-Long hours and overtime for longer periods off time cause turnover on the floor that makes it harder to control labor and ultimately hinders bottom-line output each day

    Advice to Management

-Cross-Training is important from an operational aspect and can positively impact output and customer fill rates
-Greater training of SAP and effectively aligning it with Generac's business processes
-SAP helps highlight outdated operating processes and introduces new pain points in Eagle facility

I worked at Generac Power Systems (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company has high growth potential in revenue dollars and favorable bonus opportunity if you are a Director or above

    Cons

Communication does not work from executives to employees. Once a year CEO event is great, but VP and Directors do not share vision or direction making success at other levels difficult. Too many people with their own agenda and the Company does not practice collaboration, even though they say it is their leadership style.

    Advice to Management

Get the real story as to why a project fails, or good employees leave, not what your direct reports want you to believe.

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time

    Pros

Baseline salary and benefits are pretty fair. Many updates to the facilities in recent years makes it a very comfortable environment.

    Cons

Many silos and little collaboration between departments ... everyone has their own agenda. Executives are a bottleneck in getting things done and are out of touch with the current market.

    Advice to Management

Let your employees do their jobs. Trust in their skills and be an advocate for progress instead of a roadblock.

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Advancement opportunity OK if willing to work lots of hours and management likes you
Lots of good people at middle to lower levels

    Cons

Too much office politics at senior management level
Very little recognition by senior management
Inconsistent with treatment of departments and employees
Compensation package below average. Promote the bonus which in not consistent and capped
Talk about team effort but evaluation is all about individual and department accomplishments. No reward for helping other employees or departments - actually works to disadvantage because it takes time away what you could accomplish for yourself, which is all that is
    rewarded
    Imbalance in work/life ratio
Too heavy VP to employee ratio
Use employees to take everything out of them, and then will figure out a way to let them go when done with them
    Cannot trust senior management

    Advice to Management

Striving for the dollar sucks the life out of the employees. Profits are important but need to think more about the employees and less about the dollar.
