I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Only about 5% of the employees actually do anything constructive for the company, but you can't give them awesome performance reviews or increased pay because HR won't approve, but please give them more responsibility. Generac has slightly improved the vacation packages, and your computer background screen changes for no real reason every 4-6 weeks. I guess looking at something new could possibly be a pro to someone.

    Cons

Aaron, the CEO doesn't have a clue and the Senior VP's he leans on are worse. HR doesn't allow anything more than 2% annual raises, and now cut the quarterly bonuses in some cases by 50%. They are trying to improve the culture by taking it out of their own employees wallets. Generac HR also shakes down the employees for "charitable contributions" , but we have Friday FUNDays when they do it. I have some awesome employees under me and I cannot do a damn thing to help them grow in this company because replacing them would be too difficult and real performance based raises are forbidden and speaking about it is considered blasphemous.

    Advice to Management

Stop the company wide practice of employees leaving for better pay only to bring them back 6 months to a year later for 30% more pay. The practice of bring in outsiders into roles they are not qualified for is the another reason why the culture is horrendous. These people come in, harass dedicated established employees, because they feel threatened by people who actually can do their job well. Those employees leave, the outsider is fired 6 months later, and then HR has to beg those employees to come back. Generac was, is, and will remain a company that depends on Mother Nature to grow sales unless they learn that their are better avenues for growing their business interests in the Healthcare and large commercial world. But, going on Rural America Live and having an infomercial air at 4am is the only way Generac knows how because of all of the incompetent outsiders that run things.

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fellow employees are generally fun to be around and we work well with each other. Company picnics can be fun too.

    Cons

Everyone is disposable. All about the numbers. HR changes constantly. Extreme micromanaging. Pretend to care about employees but constantly lie about what they are doing to make our jobs safer and easier. Also they pretend to listen to employee concerns only to go in one ear and out the other.

    Advice to Management

We are not middle schoolers. Treat us with respect and like adults

I have been working at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some good people left from back when culture was family-oriented and hard work was rewarding.

    Cons

Most veterans and those with talent have left the company, and the rest are seeking other opportunities. The attempts to change the culture over the past few years have resulted in epic failures. The company has changed the operations team with lack-luster, self-serving micro managers. So many dollars have been spent to improve productivity, only to have taken ten steps back, rather than forward. Employees are left questioning how products can even be profitable, with numbers being manipulated by leadership, in an effort to distort what's really happening - thus preventing the truth from being discovered by those at the very top.
The arrogance that resides within this company is nauseating.

    Advice to Management

Realize the mistake of the changes and find true leaders, whom the employees are willing to work for, will trust and follow, and take an honest look at the cause of the turnover.

    Pros

the company is working on getting better training for employees in different departments.

    Cons

Not having enough work at some facilities to keep employees working 40 hours a week. A slow down in production.

    Advice to Management

Employees first. Employees want a job that has 40 hrs a week.

I worked at Generac Power Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some good people with good work ethic, solid personal/business ethics, good business knowledge and understanding how to win business. Fantastic facilities for a manufacturing company.

    Cons

Lack of trust and empowerment from the top down. C-level micromanages entirely too much for a company this size. Competent people are hired with the ability to do the job, only to have their momentum and efforts stifled by having to constantly get denied for some of the most mundane things. Company has very little true understanding of how to work proactively to gain placement and share. Always running fire drills at quarter/year end for things that could have been prevented with some foresight and strategy. No appreciation for a job well done, regardless of the circumstances. Ethics of many employees are questionable considering the amount of soap-opera type drama occurring daily between internal employees. Unrealistic expectations from a numbers perspective driven by pie-in-the-sky forecasts...this doesn't work with a weather driven category. On top of that, realistic forecasts and planning provided is thrown out and/or not even looked at for fear that reality will disagree with executive perspective. Fear of executive wrath/rebuke drives decisions.

    Advice to Management

Strategy shift toward letting competent employees do the job they were hired for vs consistently overruling them. Either that, or add a bullet point to all job descriptions stating "will function as robot for executive driven ideologies". That way people know what they are signing up for.

    Pros

American manufacturer committed to remaining in America.

    Cons

A company woefully deficient in building and maintain employee engagement. High turnover and corrosive work environment hamstring its ability to hire and retain talented professionals.

    Advice to Management

Learn what employee engagement is, develop your own definition of employee engagement, hire a proven, HR professional with a track record of building engagement, empower that individual to change company practices and give him/her three years to move the needle.
