Good company awful management
Jul 8, 2016 - Anonymous Employee in Hong KongRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great people and an excellent place to network with others from all walks of life. Instructors are very experienced and offer a wealth of knowledge
Cons
Management is awful, they do not value employees at all. Every month there was at least one person leaving the company because of management. The team I was working with (before they all left) was highly motivated with a strong desire to improve the business. However ideas we brought to the table during brainstorm sessions went nowhere and blame is placed by management on the team whenever something goes wrong. There is no business strategy or direction because the management has no experience in business, managing people or has any understanding of the local market. Working in GA is like sailing with a blind and deaf captain. The management is beyond incompetent. Other branches may be managed better but avoid Hong Kong.

Pros
There is a good culture with teammates, wfh, you get a nice anniversary gift...
Cons
While the company as a whole seems to be a sinking ship I would absolutely RUN if you're looking to work in the admissions department. When I started, and even the first six-eight months into covid, I loved this job. I loved the department, I loved my team, I loved my students. The management in the admissions department has ruined the culture and made the job a nightmare. If you enjoy being micromanaged, waiting hours for terrible leads, having a PIP mentioned every conversation with your manager this is the job for you. Otherwise, RUN. Half the department (if not more) has left in 2021. People are leaving for great jobs at tech companies that will treat them like adults and pay them fairly. Some people are leaving with nothing lined up because their mental health is in such poor shape. Is leadership not looking at retention numbers in this department? Is nothing ever going to be done about the top down toxic culture?

Teaching Assistant
Dec 26, 2015 - Teaching Assistant in London, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Student and teachers that all very keen to learn and passionate about what they're doing. GA was great for networking and meeting smart people in relevant fields.
Cons
Marketing and delivery of course felt very disconnected. Students are sold on the idea that they can learn to become a front end developer/data scientist etc in 6 hours a week over 12 weeks. I don't believe that's possible and I felt as though many students felt disappointed that we as staff hadn't delivered on something that wasn't possible.

Great people who love their work
Cons
Not really anything so far

Pros
So GA is actually solving a problem: It's pretty neat working with a company passionate about education. I had a great team: People at GA are amazing. Some people are scarily nice. So much to learn: Ahh yes, spent two years constantly learning, honing my strengths and building up my weaknesses. If you want to start your career and actually work with cool people solving a big problem, I'd say come to GA!
Cons
Not really a con as I can see they are working on it but diversity (both staff and students). Was super happy about Opportunity Fund. -- A very cool initiative!

Pros
Welcoming and great people to work with; Continuous learning
Cons
Nothing I can recall for cons

Pros
there are tons of great people who work here who really want to do good work. they are kind and passionate and sincere.
Cons
really poor work/life balance: tons of pressure without adequate support. non-competitive salaries. incredibly high turnover. no institutional memory. people just get worked to the bone, and burn out and leave. there is little to no training, and this is just not sustainable.
