Good Company To Work For, But With A Few Flaws
Mar 11, 2022 - Instructor in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Administrative team is friendly and thoughtful If you work as an instructor in the part time / workshops division you can have great autonomy and work life balance Hourly pay was very good for the work -- more than other companies Atmosphere on campus (when it was open) was always collegiate and warm If you want it to be the teaching opportunity can give you a big chance to learn
Cons
Company is not always well organized Despite its appearance it does not have a large budget for non-essential expenses Despite its appearance it is not a technology company -- everyone on the inside comes from higher ed management. There is little technical competency inside the company in the areas they teach in They do not adequately fund product development. The material for some of their core classes rarely gets updated The administrative team will have lots of good intent, but little actual ability to handle difficult, high value-add items As an instructor you have nowhere else to go after you've mastered teaching your own classes -- being a teacher is a terminal position here The company is pretty set in its organizational patterns and has a large turning circle trying to do anything else The autonomy you're given is a double edged sword -- I liked it and it made me better, but if you're not willing to work unpaid hours or don't have a good knack for teaching you can really sink This can either be a pro or a con, but this place is super woke. I know it rubbed some people the wrong way but I think it mostly came from a good place

Front Lines Associate
Sep 20, 2017 - Front Lines Associate in Boston, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The people who work here and the people who take classes here are awesome. The environment is great and lively.
Cons
Part time employees don't get much benefits.

Pros
Culture was fun, enjoyed most of the work.
Cons
Thankless job. Full time staff didn't really understand how hard it was to work part time for such a low hourly wage in a big city. I felt like I was constantly treated like I was less than them. Originally was looking to move into a full time position, but when I saw the work life balance of the full time staff I decided to look elsewhere.

Great team, but the company just went through a huge layoff and there's been a lot of turnover.
Aug 8, 2016 - Education Producer in Los Angeles, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Free classes and workshops, bonuses each year, paid cell phone, gas and gym stipend, unlimited time off and for the most part get the last 2 weeks of the year off paid.
Cons
Weak global management team, lots of recent turnover, organization is going through a lot of growth and people are asked to pick up the slack but not paid more.

Learn a lot, bad working conditions
Jul 18, 2022 - Instructor Associate in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Networking - Continued learning - Company resources - Some nice people in other departments
Cons
- You are no longer qualified for outcomes support because they hired you - The NY engineering teaching team was toxic, so blatantly misogynistic - Lead instructors were kept despite many complaints of toxic/rude/condescending behavior from different employees over the course of years - Underpaid/overworked: Given a limited amount of hours you can be paid for, but the job always takes more than that so you work unpaid hours or give a worse experience to the students - Every student gives feedback on the instructors daily (often naming individuals), so you are constantly critiqued/criticized, adding to the need to work extra hours or get negative feedback - One associate instructor of every pair was forced to work 'part time' but basically had to work full time hours, only they didn't get any benefits/health insurance
