Amazing team and company mission
Feb 3, 2021 - Marketing Manager in SydneyRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- A really fun, close-knit, and supportive local team in Australia - Autonomous work and interesting projects - Flexible working, especially during covid - Great work life balance - Empowered to learn and grow, encouraged to take the courses and workshops so always heaps to learn! - Strong leadership team in APAC - Fulfilling mission that helps change people's lives. You can see everyday how your work is positively impacting the world - Big focus on diversity and inclusion - New CEO looks promising
Cons
- Disconnected from HQ, unfortunately it can sometimes feel like we're doing our own thing and don't have the resources to truly grow locally - Lean team and sometimes limited by resources - Not as innovative as it could be (hard to change the company from a local level) - Limited career opportunities and roles unless you're in the US

Cons
More work life balance please

Pros
Competitive benefits (dental, vision, medical, gym, subway) computer & cell phone, beautiful office space, coworkers will likely be your friends. Generally, everyone there is good at what they do. You don't feel like you're dealing with idiots. Very lateral structure - there is limited bureaucracy and things move fast. Few, if any, people you have to go through to get an answer. You will get a lot of experience and you have a lot of responsibility.
Cons
They will burn you out; Don't expect to stay longer than a year. There is no work life balance and you are nothing but a battery to be exhausted. You will have a managers, but not a leaders. Laughable pay, especially considering how much they ask of you. Things to keep in mind: If you don't work in NYC, don't expect do move up much, especially in a newer office. Typically people quit after 1-2 years in exasperation and lack of vertical growth opportunity. If you see it as a stepping stone, you'll be fine. The hiring process takes months. Don't be surprised to go in for 4 or 5 interviews over this time and then be approached you with a different position. Hard work is irrelevant - either you produce results or you're out. Don't expect a bonus, even if they tell you you're getting one. The excuses are as wide as they are diverse, especially if your salary raises were in the form of a bonus. Inappropriate sexual misconduct is common and so too is inaction or mismanagement of these cases.

Cons

Pros
Good benefits, and flexible vacation. Mangers aren't micro-managers. Great work/life balance and not a very challenging job
Cons
Job is stale after awhile and there isn't a lot of room for growth. Occasionally people move laterally within the company, but GA is focused on becoming profitable so they are keeping headcount low in all departments which limits internal growth. Also, as a school that markets being able to teach people skills to improve their career, there is nothing in place to help such movement internally and cultivate talent.

Cannot recommend joining GA in 2021

Work is fully remote at this time (if thats what you are looking for). Great tools for the job. Skills taught at GA are in demand, and you can take classes if you are hitting your goals. Compensation is significantly tied to performance - if you want to work a 13 hour day to make more money management will sing your praises for all to hear.
Cons
COVID and 'post' COVID world has made it extremely difficult to hit your goals, which will hurt your overall compensation. When you don't hit your goals consecutively you are on the carousel to getting fired. All the experienced people are getting laid off or fired or poached for better opportunities. You are paid a flat rate regardless of cost of living in your area. A pro if you are living in suburbia, but a negative in NY or SF or LA or similar places. Work is now fully remote - which is a huge negative to me. The work culture and work / life balance was negatively impacted by this change.
