I have been working at General Atomics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Excellent health benefits and work schedule.

    - Great tuition reimbursement program.

    - Excellent wellness/recreation program and private fitness centers.

    - Work is fascinating, and constantly changes.

    - Coworkers are friendly and helpful, most have diverse backgrounds.

    - Easy to apply for new positions within the company once you have your foot in the door.

    - Perform above expectations, demonstrate a willingness to learn new roles, and management will promote accordingly.

    Cons

    - Compensation scales, job titles, and job descriptions are ambiguous.

    - Pay raises are generally low, bonuses are mediocre.

    - Archaic and inefficient paper trailing of documents.

    - Management seems to communicate ineffectively, causing employees to work extended hours and weekends to meet constantly shifting deadlines.

    - Other than new hire training, organizational training is virtually non-existent.

    - Mismatched 90's office furniture and uncomfortable chairs.

    - "Holiday" party is limited to employees only.

    - After 3 years, I still have no clue what HR does.

    Advice to Management

    - Communicate more effectively!

    - Employees have minimal insight on benchmarks and goals for their positions. Implement a transparent promotion structure with clearly defined benchmarks to inspire confidence and motivation within employees.

    - Have well-defined goals for your team members, instead of issuing work, followed by several rounds of re-work.

    - If employees are asked to work extended hours or weekends; pay them, or offer compensatory time to keep morale high.

    - The company would benefit from adopting new technologies and expanding product lines.

    - Implement automated programs to maximize efficiency and throughput.

    - Move, or better yet, REMOVE poor-performing employees who report to work for free air conditioning and a supplemental paycheck.

    - Reorganize and improve the organizational training department to keep employees motivated and educated. Reading poorly-written documents and taking quizzes does zero for employee development. Instead, seek SMEs who are motivated to cross-train employees in other departments.

    - Seek employee feedback through surveys or anonymous suggestions, and seek ways to implement these suggestions. How will the company flourish without the honest feedback from employees?

    - Save money by reducing the daily gardening to weekly. We're in a drought, and the plants don't need daily attention.

I have been working at General Atomics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

9/80 work week, excellent benefits, company will pay for continued education, friendly and happy employees who are passionate about their work. It is definitely a company that you can grow with. They don't often fire or lay off their people, they like to keep them and use them on different contracts when a contract ends.

    Cons

Poor communication between codependent departments which often makes for delayed times in getting projects done. Salary is so so...
