I have been working at General Atomics (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    9/80 and pension.

    Great people at work

    Cons

The pay is a little stiff and will take advantage once you're in. You need to really network around know a lot of inside people to get around. Upper management is very impulsive and jumps the gun too often. A lot of non experienced people come into the company with larger pay than ones who really do work hard for it. See lots of lazy people take advantage of the system. Seen people sleep at their desk, watch YouTube all day, on their phone and long breaks hours at a time.

    Advice to Management

California equal pay act. Please be fair to the ones who are really qualified and work hard.

I have been working at General Atomics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for depending on your department. Rapid growth constantly makes new opportunities available. Great work/life balance and very little micromanaging. Competitive salaries and regular compensation increases, including yearly bonuses. Great retirement plan and one of a few remaining companies that still offer a pension.

    Cons

Constantly shifting management makes it tough to build a rapport. High expectations and heavy regulations make for very random spikes in workload and increased stress at times.

    Advice to Management

Focus on underutilized employees and identify where a particular employee may provide more value. Encourage team work and attract the best candidates by offering incentives like working remotely when appropriate.

I worked at General Atomics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I can not in any capacity recommend nor think of a reason any engineer should work for GA. This is segregated to the Desert Sites. HQ in Poway seems to be better.

    Cons

Adelanto, El Mirage, Grey Butte sites are run by an incompetent Director (Micro-managing, pointless meetings, nepotism, no real engineering knowledge). Desert Sites have lost good engineers left and right in 2017. HR is well aware of the issues and turn a blind eye to the issues. The place is a revolving door for engineers (Mandatory 6 am start time, no security clearance, titles are vague and unclear, underpaid, will move you to other sites at their discretion). Job postings state Propulsion and Mechanical Engineers wanted however the Director will eventually turn all into Manufacturing Engineers. Very unstable.

    Advice to Management

At this point i do not know if there is anything management can do, management is the problem. Good luck.

I have been working at General Atomics full-time

    Pros

    Interesting working on the products

    Cons

Treated like a child and there are no talking rules and I was berated for going to the bathroom

    Advice to Management

Don't make up rules that are not company policies and enforce them like they are. There are already many fellow coworkers fed up and looking for new employment
