    Pros

Changes come about all of the time. They are trying to transform the culture and the company all of the time. Pay is in line with market

    Cons

Advancement is possible but it is highly subjective based upon your current boss. A star at one time is a new manager away from being run out.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate personnel on a objective basis with a coordinated scale between all levels of management. Promote actual change instead of forcing current activity into a new filter

    Pros

If you are a white male you will thrive in this highly political climate. Also you don't have to think or innovate because Greg Lampert, CEO will do it for you. As he has zero confidence in the leadership within the organization and thinks only his opinion matters. Therefore the company can go on about their evolving culture but rest assured that the same tirades and lack of enthusiasm from their top leader will be sure not change anything. Company is great at maintaining the status quo and never really trying to do things differently.

    Cons

Dysfunction and negligence have led this company to their demise. Multiple restatements and foreign corruption practice charges are just what the public knows about. But what they don't know is that no action was taken at the top. General Cable continues to let their CEO who was overseeing all this corrupt business remain on his throne. However he constantly criticizes and micro manages his leadership, rather than serving as a change agent.

    Advice to Management

The company will never change with the same political bullying tactics at the helm.

    Pros

Your coworkers are generally wonderful people.

    Cons

Where to start.....salary is meager compared to the amount of work that is given/expected. People walk around displaying brain drain from the work overload. Leadership will lie to your face as they tell you they appreciate you- they don't. They would rather hire 20 year old experts to tell them how they are failing as a company instead of listening to their sales force that has been there for 10-15 years or more. Inside sales is repeatedly looked down upon and expressed that they are the bottom of the hierarchy per upper management - although they carry out all of the grunt work to keep the company afloat. Unless you are a favorite by upper management, be prepared to stay in your current position forever.

    Advice to Management

Fight for your employees and get more people. Stand up to people that are archaic and have outworn their welcome on so many levels. Get rid of them - you'll be doing everyone a favor.

I have been working at General Cable full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Annual merit increase
    Dedicated coworkers
    Nice facility

    Cons

According to a recent Fortune article on “The 5 most overrated CEOs” Greg Kenny’s compensation rose from $5 million in 2013 to $5.4 million in 2014. Because of the company’s new annual merit schedule, some employees received a meager 1-2% increase in Fall 2014 and got next to nothing in 2015. It was pretty creative financing by HR to scam the employees out of what was promised as an annual merit and then change up the schedule so that anyone that got an increase late in 2014 got screwed in 2015. Originally everyone was on an unknown schedule but then moved to annual merit schedule during the year, and then that was changed to a company wide merit schedule in March. There is no disclosure of where you are in range and compensation is very hush hush However it's no secret that the CEO got substantially paid. Lack of fair compensation, a long with the company’s poor business performance, has people leaving in droves. Those who remain are overworked and tired of being the last priority.

    Advice to Management

People need to be valued as a core asset to the business.

    Pros

They pay basic market value. The coporate culture educates all employeesto follow proper ethics on and off work.

    Cons

They acquire other companies and do not adjust their pricing or inventory structure to meet market needs. Thus what was once established market share with those products quickly diminishes. .

    Advice to Management

Follow ouside sales feedback more closely to better understand what products to keep in inventory.

I have been working at General Cable full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Focused on wellness and employee health. Nice decor and on site amenities (ie. gym, cafeteria, copy center). Recent acquisitions and smart global growth provide opportunities and stability in organization. Upper management attempts to be accessible through HR coordinated lunch and learn sessions.

    Cons

Business platform is still on a AS400 green screen platform. Women have no upper mobility, a complete boys club and virtually no women in senior leadership. Leaders influence others by flexing their muscles and bullying. The HR department has constant turnover and never seems to follow through on commitments to the organization. There is no flexibility, my manager has an issue if I attend onsite events in their opinion too long, I have no autonomy.

    Advice to Management

Look at systems and take a look at whether a green screen business platform is adequate for a Fortune 500 company. There is not financial reporting capability for accountability of departments. If you want to retain the talent in your workforce invest in employee training and enforce the review and development process to identify opportunities for all employees. Also with the younger generation coming in, get creative with work/life balance. Salary increases are not consistent in all departments and who knows when I will get an increase as the timing changes and sometimes I don't get an increase for nearly 18 months, 16 months, etc. just to get a meager 2-3%.
