    Pros

If you perform you have a job. Benefits are ok. Some of the mfg shops are union. That can be a double edge sword.

    Cons

Management is always changing at mid level. Engineering is weak at best. Top management poorly handled the kingdom and clearly was a good old boy network. Bad business practices hurt share value.

    Advice to Management

Poor leadership has led to a change at the top. New ethics and values directives may help the hourly folks. Corporate needs to be leaders. There is hope.

I have been working at General Cable as an intern

    Pros

Great cafeteria, on-site gym, good pay for co-ops.

    Cons

Extremely poor IT infrastructure... feels like 2006 in terms of technology and office layout. I found the wire and cable industry to be extremely boring and stagnant. The company is having lots of problems with its culture currently as well. This could be due to the fact that the average age in the office is about 50 years old. Not much energy or creativity flowing at all.

    Advice to Management

You can't fix culture with free lunches and a handout with important values and behaviors written on it.

    Pros

Great people who really care! Management is very appreciative. Laissez-faire management style. Nice onsite cafe. Opportunity for travel. Some opportunity for advancement if you are willing to change career paths. Agree with most strategic decisions. Emphasis on safety.

    Cons

Average 9-5 cubicle job. Average compensation & benefits package. Upper management tends to flip flop on decisions. No bonuses. Frequent Layoffs. Overall Cable market is in a slump.

    Advice to Management

Upgrade ERP system. Upgrade desktops to laptops. Streamline processes. Transparency from the top down. Most employees should have the option to work from home at least one or two days/week.
