I have been working at General Dynamics Information Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

GDIT has a Great Team consisting of experienced and knowledgeable managers who care for their employees. I have found the company to be a solid partner in my career, with an abundance of opportunities for advancement over the years.

    Cons

The typical cons of any large scale company. Big companies have to have oversight on programs that small companies do not. There are reasons that employees need to fill out paperwork for expenditures; hint: it's not because the company hates you :)

    Advice to Management

Focus on quality people, try to reduce as much as possible the big-company burdens and bureaucracy, and invest in your employees!

I have been working at General Dynamics Information Technology full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    They pays 100% medical benefits.

    Cons

This company itself is a joke and whoever is responsible for negotiating contracts need their head examined. They don't take their employees into consideration, they don't give raises and they aren't concerned about the overall moral of its employees. The have a CAP program that is suppose to help employees find positions in the company if their contract is expiring...wrong. Its only for managers and up which is borderline discrimination. So how are you claiming diversity when all of the people in the high positions are only one color?

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter what you suggest because its not going to make a difference.

I worked at General Dynamics Information Technology full-time

    Pros

The client(s) were great and fun to work with so were most of my direct co-workers in the same region

    Cons

Management and all program leadership located in low cost of living area, think flyover country while client and client facing employees located on east coast. Total lack of communication between managers and employees. Check-ins were often cancelled at the last minute and never re-scheduled even if employee asked for another time after work hours included

    Advice to Management

To much group think, when people have been in the same program their entire career or since graduating from college 20 years ago very little change happens. Management talks a big game follow-thru is awful.

I worked at General Dynamics Information Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and a nice facility to work in.

    Cons

Double standards, favoritism, to many people from one family working in the facility and if they don't like you well then forget any opportunities for other duties or advancements also your opinion doesn't matter unless the so called management team likes you and if you bring up a concern to the center manager she acts like your the problem and you are bothering her.

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees with respect whether your like them or not. Find something good about the people who come in on time and bust there tail to make you look good then maybe you can retain the good help. Back up all employees and give them the benefit of a doubt although that is to hard since you already have your targets for what ever their reason is. I guess GDIT has plenty of money to blow into this revolving door and it is easier to dismiss good employees who may need management's support and understanding of how difficult it is to be abused by the customers (not that many)and to be a target of hate for no apparent reason. I guess some folks are just scared of others who are just trying to make a living and it is easier to show them who is boss than it is to be a real leader.

I worked at General Dynamics Information Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to get in depth experience in all aspects of Sales, Contracting, Proposal Management, business development, recruiting, hiring and managing personnel.

    Cons

Upper management is bonused on your business development and capture efforts. You had very little leeway to be innovation in solution development. Company is very risk averse. Senior management encourages Program Managers to let seasoned contract personnel go at the end of contract cycles to recruit new lower cost talent for project recompetition.

    Advice to Management

Consider the impression you make on the workers on whose back you earn your bonuses.

    Pros

Opened job opportunity for may Hattiesburg area residents.

    Cons

It's a job, many jobs have the same cons. Go figure

    Advice to Management

Managers need to consider the balance that many employees need for activities outside of work. Increases should be considered especially now that the minimum wage rate for government contracts has risen.
