    Pros

Benefits aren't bad but that's about all that's good.

    Cons

Senior management micro-manages and lacks a coherent business strategy. Innovation is stifled. Far too many VP's for the size of the business.

    Advice to Management

Get the VP's out of day-to-day operation.

    Pros

Different programs to work on that allow you to get a wide range of experience within the same company. Good pay and leadership potential. A realization from management that much of the culture is gray haired and top heavy. There is a recent push to hire younger engineers. Good work-life balance encouraged from most managers.

    Cons

There is much more work than the number of employees to perform the tasks. Many managers are inefficient. Too much bureaucracy, primarily driven by the customer (Govt.).

    Advice to Management

Focus more on development of employees, especially younger ones. Put more money into R & D. Stop wasting time and money on boondoggles and useless programs.

    Pros

Many talented engineers and mostly hardworking, friendly co-workers are still here, in spite all the stress from years of layoffs and pay freezes. Your starting salary may look good, but negotiate wisely, as promotions are scarce and pay freezes or tiny raises are standard. If you are senior management, you'll still do well, with promotions and bonusses that are funded by slashing benefits and freezing the pay of the regular staff. On the plus side, the variety of projects you can work on (though there are fewer new projects now) will give you solid experience for your resume and your next real career..

    Cons

It's a depressing place to work. Contract workers are treated better than regular employees -- they usually get advance notice before their contract is done. Employees have been getting that tap on the shoulder and march out the door with no notice and barely time to gether up a few personal belongings since 2011. Contract workers also get paid for the overtime needed to make up for the poor planning and generally bad project management, unlike regular staff who often work long hours for free, especially after getting added work from laid-off co-workers piled onto their workload. Favoritism by management is rampant, so if you kiss up to your manager, your workload will be a lot easier to manage. Benefits have been cut to nearly nothing, except a so-so 401K match and high deductible health insurance -- even paid time off was cut by 40 hours to max out corporate profit and executive bonusses.

    Advice to Management

Why bother -- you obviously don't care about the the regular employees!

    Pros

Amazing technology, important work, brilliant people, competitive salaries.

    Cons

Top-level management completely out of touch with the other 95% of the workforce. Extremely male-dominated with no real plans to change. Good-old boys club.

    Advice to Management

Stop being afraid to walk around and interact with the masses, even if you may not like what they have to say. You are ignoring some brilliant voices at the mid to lower echelons out of pride and ego. Look at your counterparts and weed out the low performers at the top instead of the high-performers at the mid to lower levels.

    Pros

Salaries are good. Plenty of work, especially large projects. Food at annual picnic is great, however, the picnic is no longer in a park, but in the parking lot.

    Cons

Benefits have been on the decline over the years (higher insurance costs, taking away vacation, less rewards). Investing in new projects has also been cut.

    Pros

They pay was good and department management tried their best.

    Cons

Morale was horrendous, they are not about their employees at all. Layoffs were rampant and business was sinking, mostly due to incompetent and callous senior management.

I have been working at General Dynamics Mission Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Okay benefits, easy workloads, light expectations. Hard to get fired unless you get reduced due to shrinking projects. Many employees work very hard, but many others are allowed to do minimal work due to the lack of measurable objectives. Focus on getting a high salary offer because once you are in the door raises are around 2~3% for top performance employees with little room for movement but some job security. There are some outstanding employees that struggle to make a difference but it seems that most of the best people have left in the last year. The high turnover of good people might work out in the end if they hire some good people but HR seems clueless at providing good talent.

    Cons

No career growth. Average employee age is 48+ with around 20 years with the company and perhaps one or two promotions. A few employee have been with the company as many as 15 years without a promotion. There is no place to grow because the company is shrinking due to bad management. For a technology company, management does not invest in education or training so your skills will rot on the vine the longer you stay. Very behind in the investment in technology so you will spend most of your time in excel and other outdated tools. Heavy cuts to IT means poor support for any new technologies.
Management is very political and likes only positive reinforcement of the status quo. The performance review system is called a Personal Commitment or PC and is a joke because it is often not linked to actual objectives or goals. Most managers provide some weak objectives like improve financial performance which is difficult for engineers working projects to achieve, but don't worry as long as the boss likes you you will get the top grade!

    Advice to Management

Fire all the middle management and remove all the yes men. Invest in more training and mentoring loyal employees. Figure out how to measure performance so that reviews are not subjective and political. Figure out what the company does instead of providing vague and misleading sound bites.
