I worked at General Dynamics as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

High pay, able to add experience to the resume. Formed a real good relationship with some workers which lead to a better position with another company.

    Cons

Contracted to work 6 months remote which was to become permanent local position. Terms of employment change after committed. Mislead to perform task.

    Advice to Management

    Tell the truth

I have been working at General Dynamics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The location is great. Pay is good.

    Cons

Poor leadership, failure is rewarded, largely incompetent and lazy workforce/management, no understanding of customers, nobody makes decisions

    Advice to Management

Retire. Open your eyes and admit your failures, learn from the failures, and adjust the course.

I worked at General Dynamics full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working directly on programs that serve the USA's defense sector. Having great co-workers.

    Cons

The contract game. Of the ~10 years I worked here, almost seven were off and on as a contractor. Management treats this (contracting) as a way to reap all the benefits of a skilled labor force with none of the responsibility apart from flat compensation. If you contract here, there will be talk of possibly hiring at the end of you 12 or 18 month contract-it will never happen.

Company uses the sequestration excuses to terminate contractors, then brings them back 90 days later.

    No upward promotion opportunities.

    Advice to Management

It is very simple: accomplish the task, reward the people who perform. You are barely doing the former and none of the latter.

Gut your bloated middle management force. Nobody should have two or three bosses. "Office Space" is fiction, not the work week one should expect from the 6th(?) largest DoD contractor.
