I worked at General Mills full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Met some incredibly talented, young individuals that will go far in life. Enjoyed the challenging, ever-changing work environment.

    Cons

A tremendous amount of office and company politics. This is a relationship based company, and does not offer much opportunity to try cross-functional roles unless you know the right people.

    Advice to Management

Participate in driving culture change, do not just expect everyone else to take action for you. Listen closely to the wants and needs of your best employees, or else you may not have them much longer. Try focusing on retaining employees.

I have been working at General Mills full-time

    Pros

Pay is good after you pass all assessments.

    Cons

Be prepared to work 12 days straight without a day off. 12 hour shifts with only about an hour notice if the next shift calls in. 5 days PTO when we used to have 12. If you don't have a life then this is the company for you.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees and they will take care of you.

I worked at General Mills full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

the pay is good, and most of the rank and file employees are fun to work with. pretty good benefits

    Cons

morale is terrible. everyone in management is out for themselves alone. there is no integrity in what they say and what they do. they follow rules to the letter, and ignore the intent. .

    Advice to Management

read the plaque by the front door.
    stop talking down to people.
having a degree, in an unrelated field, does not qualify you to tell people, who have been doing their job for years, how it should be done.
morale counts for 33% of quality and safety. look for ways to make employees jobs easier, and they will make you look good.

I have been working at General Mills full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people at General Mills are incredibly friendly and genuinely seem to care about one another. There are a lot of great development opportunities at General Mills, especially for young people who are willing to work hard.

    Cons

Lately there has been a lot of change and it feels like General Mills is less focused on work-life balance and more focused on business results.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes when things aren't working, it is not the people, but instead it is broken systems.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The people leadership that you learn is great. I learned from a lot of great people.

    Cons

They pride results more than people. Had an ops manager who cared very little for his people and were just there to get things done. Not the norm but they were not dealing with him. Kiss up and Kick down.
