    Not a competitive paying company

    Pros

    Life work balance is excellent.

    Cons

Been with the company almost ten years. Starting salary was on the low side. First few years, the annual merits and bonuses were good. Since the start of the pandemic corporate greed has set in. No bonuses were given to those that were in the field surrounded by potential infection. Executive management Stayed hidden under their office desks at home where most are still today. They will tell you the starting salary is competitive and it’s not. Nor are the annual bonuses and raises. Zero incentivized payouts during the year. What you get at the end of their fiscal year is all you get and it’s not staying up with inflation. Fiscal ‘21 I got a 3.5 increase while inflation was 8% so I took a 4.5% cut in pay. And I’m no slouch in sales. I’ve been in the top 5% in gross sales since the beginning.

General Mills Foodservice is an awesome company to work for! I have nothing but great things to say about it!

    Jul 19, 2022 - Business Development Manager

    Pros

General Mills goes out of it's way to treat their employee's with a lit of respect. They will invest various training tools on their employees in Hope's the employees will invest back on General Mills and themselves! At hqt. in Minneapolis MN, they bring a lot of vendors so the employees don't need to go out and do their shopping and rush during lunch. This service is provided for most holidays! There are some many perks that GMI offers at the main offices and plants try to do the same, they just set it up a bit differently.

    Cons

Given that there are so many people at headquarters, you can get lost and just become a number. That's why it's so important to do all you can to stand out and perform at 100% or higher! Some young people coming right out of college will disrespect the support staff, like the administration or IT people thinking they are better than everyone else cause they got recruiter and they are just out from a prestigious college! I would suggest that Their mentors and/or HR reminds them that everyone deserves Respect and to treat everyone equally no matter what their title is!

Don't let the wage bait you.

Nov 21, 2022 - Packing Maintenance mechanic in Buffalo, NY

    Pros

Lots of real estate to hide when you are forced with no option but to act exactly the same as a fully unqualified epically lazy and downright dangerous partner for years doing 80% of the required work as your supervisors are eyewitnesses to everything but do nothing because ultimately the job get completed.

    Cons

If you are not cautious an alleged mechanic here who's daddy got him into a better previous job he destroyed singlehandedly and nearly killed no less than three partners with the initials b.s. will fabricate lies about you as well as the dozen other coworkers he's cordial to up close and personal, claims he's 100% union and walks directly into the office and fills out paperwork certifying he saw you doing something for no reason whatsoever.

Nov 10, 2022 - Anonymous Employee in Golden Valley, MN

    Pros

    - Benefits are solid. Maternity and paternity leave is the most generous I've seen yet in my career. Standard health coverage, and 6% 401k match. - CEO Jeff Harmening is an excellent leader - the first time in my career I've seen and experienced such strong leadership, he does what he says he's going to do. And the decisions he makes - clearly move the giant ship of General Mills in the right direction. -Work-life balance - nobody is cranking out work day in and day out, if you're.- as far as I can tell this is one of the easiest gigs out there. Need a job while focusing on your family? - this is a great work life balance.

    Cons

    - Pay: be prepared to be well underpaid and undervalued, without hope for significant raises (e.g. 2-3% across the org in our record highest profit year 2021). They will also be cagey and shady about how routine this is EVERY YEAR during the interview. They also offered "work with heart" as a significant part of your raise, but you only received that benefit if you are in a role with the capability to work remotely (not a scientist) or if your manager was on board with the policy. You did not get to see the benefit (a quote "significant part of your raise") 'work with heart' if your role does not support it or if your manager disagreed with it. They kept all of the marketers they were trying to retain while forcing the rest of their workforce back into the office. AKA some got raises and some did not. Shady AF. - Promotions: expect promotions to take twice as long as at other companies. 3.5 years to get a senior title - try 7 or 8 at General Mills. Accordingly, the titles are deflated. -Politics: I learned at General Mills that "I work here because of the people" equates to political nightmare. There are a lot of cliques and gossip. I have experienced such a pernicious Social standing is more important than the work being done and completed. -Sexism: Expect there to be a lot of unaware, emotionally unintelligent business bros to speak over women and say the same thing and to take credit. It's hard to watch. There are a lot of women in leadership - but a lot of the traits they take have to take on are of the business bros in order to get to that point. - Young = no influence: expect to have to work very hard to influence people who have been in the org for 10, 20, 30 years. Maybe this is expected, but they are struggling to shift their thinking and adapt for the future. - 90% of your job will be managing fragile Gen Xers holding on to vestiges of "how things used to be", because they think they've earned the ability to call the shots and diminish the others behind them like I'm sure was done to them. It's sad and honestly rampant in the org.

    Great People!

Nov 3, 2022 - CI Manager in Golden Valley, MN
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Really great people to work with - very smart. Company tries hard to make it a great place to work. Diversity and inclusion are the norm - this is wonderful!

    Cons

Took a page out of the GE playbook to rank employees against each other and cut the bottom 10% every few years. While this isn't formally declared, it is the reality. This regular "calibration" process is unpleasant at best, and inhumane at worst. It is sad to see decent people fall victim to a soul-less corporate practice. Outside of calibration time, it is a fun place to work. During calibration times (twice/year), you are reminded that you are really just a number after all.

    Pros

Benefits, pay, corporate culture and training/development opportunities. Great training for floor workers.

    Cons

Lots of churn , new bosses and coworkers and constant movement. No manager training program, learn on the fly and hope for a boss that can teach you what's needed and how to deliver.
