I worked at General Plastics (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits, wage, bonuses, ETO, the job duties I was assigned.

    Cons

HR and Office people are extremely unapproachable and rude. If you have a question that they deem stupid then they treat you like your idiot.

    Advice to Management

Retrain or hire new HR and office people. Bring back the HR girl they had like 5 years ago. She was AMAZING!

I worked at General Plastics full-time

    Pros

Good healthcare. $14 starting out. After a year and a half $17 an hour. Kind of low.

    Cons

Upper management will tear you apart if you disagree with any aspect of their process. A very tall man in management there, with a steady red face and loudest yelling voice is in upper management. He will use his size, stature, loud voice to scare you into doing what he thinks is best. This tall man will take you through his dysfunctional process in front of your co workers. Your thoughts and opinions are rarely appreciated at this place. Majority of co workers agree that the extra bonus for the "top performers", is just another way of them giving money to the people they favor, and not so much being a top performer. But they'll still expect you to perform with less reward than what was originally verbalized. I hate places that have a "cool kids club",so to speak. Keep your head down and smile. You'll do just fine. It's a sweat shop for sure. Don't expect much more than hourly, with a 1-2k bonus check every few months. You get to watch the "top performers", smile and enjoy their extra bonus check, CONSISTENTLY! And they're not consistent producers.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of condescending people, and anyone that resists change from their current process. Spread more money around to the employees and not just management and the employees you want to have in management. The only people they are fooling, is themselves.

    Pros

Customers increasingly provide feedback that GP is one of their highest performing suppliers. This feedback is a reflection on the entire GP team. Nearly 100.00% product quality is the norm in an industry where 98-99.7% has been acceptable in the past. Consequently, GP's quality is becoming a key differentiator..

    Cons

Manufacturing takes a kind of tenacity that some people find hard to muster. Opportunities are there for those who are persistent.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on quality of the product. Quality creates reputation and good will needed to sustain future growth for generations.

    Pros

Gain great product knowledge & experience with Polyurethanes and their applications in various markets. Used to be a great place to work with internal advancement, pride in workmanship and a focus on taking care of the customer, whatever it took.

    Cons

With recent transitions with inexperienced leadership has altered company focus and quality. Large turnover in key positions has caused a major deficit in tribal knowledge causing quality concerns and delayed customer shipments. No long term goals for company due to short term leadership. Extreme punitive HR focus on employees. Does not foster an open minded atmosphere but rather worried about keep a job.

    Advice to Management

Focus on Positives, learn from negatives as did the leadership from decades previous. Support your best asset your people. Keep customer focus & delivery. Quality made that company special.
