Good pay, excellent Benefits medical dental and vision , 401k retirement, great bonuses, yearly boot allowance, guaranteed 40 hours, and a decent work environment.

    Cons

Mangement only looks after the good old boys club. Mangement doesn’t recognize the employees that go above and beyond and management doesn’t treat employees equally. Also doesn’t listen to there employees suggestions.

    Advice to Management

Look at the employees that go above and beyond. Listen to your employees suggestions. Stop picking and choosing who you write up and stop giving excuses and trying to sugarcoat your bad decisions.

    Pros

Pretty Good work life balance, decent pay and hours, mediocre advancement opportunities unless willing to move anywhere on the country.

    Cons

Some upper management personality issues and organizational issues. Also, technology is not a selling point for this company as it is fairly behind the curve in relation to other companies this size.

I have been working at Genesee & Wyoming as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits were very good. They also gave good milage for any employees that had to travel.

    Cons

Company was not very stable at the time. There were a lot of lay offs towards the end.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest the hiring process to be a little more in depth. It seemed like there was a very high turnover rate.

I worked at Genesee & Wyoming full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, 401k, health insurance, safety

    Cons

Although you have sick time, you are "encouraged not to use it". When you do your job shows up on the elimination list. There is no room for advancement, and management is allowed to intimidate employees and accuse them of whatever they want to without an oppotrinity for employee to stick up for themselves.

    Advice to Management

Start listening to the non management employees instead of managers. Some managers have a personal agenda towards other employees. When you work in HR and have nobody to go to when you have an issue with management it's frustrating. Start looking beneath the surface of who you believe and what their agenda is. I was accused of several things that weren't true for years because benefit manager had an issue with me. But I couldnt say anything about it. Anonymous phone number is a joke, it is not kept confidetial. People aren't what they pretend to be. Look deeper into Rochester HR dept!!! Talk to others non managers to get truth. You would be very surprised at what you find. Most do not trust HR dept. Jack, you would be surprised at what you would hear. Due to itimid a ton or fear of losing job, most people are afraid to talk.

    Pros

Most people are friendly. 24/7 360 days a year. Can work around spouses schedule

    Cons

No training. Pay is barely a liveable wage after all the mandatory retirement. Management is only for thier immediate department, they really don't care about the company as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Training. Promote based on talent not tenure.
