    Cons

The entire health system is short staffed.

I worked at Genesis Health System part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Staff very nice from interview to orientation -then it all goes down hill once you hit the floor.
Dietary and ancillary staff did a good job!

    Cons

The worst place I have ever worked- from mandatory overtime to impossible patient loads this place was a nightmare!
Management with little to no experience that completely ignored any kind of issues brought before them and for those inappropriately punished for reporting serious patient and staff concerns.
The most unhappy nurses I have ever seen in 30 years as a caregiver.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and start over ! Companies like you are why there is a healthcare crisis. Nurses already have the most difficult job imagined and your treatment, lack of support, and respect only make it that much harder. Maybe start by following your "Just Culture Algorithm"
    Shame on you

I worked at Genesis Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good Benefits, ok retirement plan.

    Cons

Managers have no idea how to do the jobs of their employees. Genesis only care about the bottom line and not their employees or the patients. You are treated like a slave, no breaks and only a half hour lunch. The pay and vacation time is laughable. In my opinion the worst healthcare employer in Iowa.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees. If you are going to be responsible for healthcare professionals you should be one.

    Pros

Coworkers were awesome to work with

    Cons

They need to pay competively, quit demanding 50 hours in a 40 hour work week.

    Advice to Management

Work on getting a union and let this be a great place to work for again.

I have been working at Genesis Health System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very wonderful and caring staff. This is a big cooperation so there is somewhere to always work.

    Cons

Weekend work, holidays. Depends on the department you work in, because I'm happy with my department.

    Advice to Management

Again this all depends on where you work and what facilities you are at.

I worked at Genesis Health System full-time

    Pros

Decent pay, ability to pick up call shifts for extra money.

    Cons

Large cut-backs led to minimal staffing. It's challenging to meet patient satisfaction and decrease wait times with staff cuts.

    Advice to Management

Take time to evaluate every employees performance. Those with the highest productivity and patient reviews should be rewarded with raises, or bonuses. Those with very low productivity should be given the boot. There are lots of people waiting to get healthcare jobs right now who are willing to work hard.

I worked at Genesis Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most of the patients are nice.

    Cons

The 'management' is still some of the same ones as it was before genesis took over ownership - and just as bad. The so-called $12 million dollar genesis renovation is questionable, with all kinds of things already performing poorly or falling apart. The cafeteria has very little variety of hi fat and unbelievably awful food. MANY people in this small, rural county would rather go to UP in RI when presenting to ER, than to this joke of a bandaid station that has several employees that are somewhat incompetent, and some are rude and lazy (playing on their phones) and just not real smart - a scary place for treatment. And, the only people worse than the poor 'management' genesis employs are the ones in HR - a dept which is considered pretty much useless.

    Advice to Management

genesis needs to hire competent, intelligent people to manage and then maybe they can DO SOMETHING about the incompetence and the many errors that are often ignored and are quite rampant. It is people's HEALTHCARE after all

I have been working at Genesis Health System part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible with my school schedule.

    Cons

Tries to manage long term care facilities like a hospital.

    Advice to Management

Onboarding process needs to be streamlined.
