    Pros

Overall Genesis tries to operate by its mission. In most departments, not a bad place to work.

    Cons

If you use an actual sick day (not planned) it is counted agains you.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees

    Pros

Coworkers were awesome to work with

    Cons

They need to pay competively, quit demanding 50 hours in a 40 hour work week.

    Advice to Management

Work on getting a union and let this be a great place to work for again.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Genesis Health System full-time

    Pros

Decent pay, ability to pick up call shifts for extra money.

    Cons

Large cut-backs led to minimal staffing. It's challenging to meet patient satisfaction and decrease wait times with staff cuts.

    Advice to Management

Take time to evaluate every employees performance. Those with the highest productivity and patient reviews should be rewarded with raises, or bonuses. Those with very low productivity should be given the boot. There are lots of people waiting to get healthcare jobs right now who are willing to work hard.

I worked at Genesis Health System (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fair wages, offers medical dental and vision insurance. Offer career ladder

    Cons

No sick child days. 5:1 patient to RN ratio. Health insurance cost more if you smoke or if you have more then 2 health risk factors and don't participate in diet exercise program.

    Advice to Management

You should value your seasoned employees not push them out.

I have been working at Genesis Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The employees work pretty well within each shift
Training opportunities are abundant and usually free CEU's
    Working on Magnet Status
Management, in my experience, has been easy to approach

    Cons

Health benefits are poor. People are leaving because they have become so expensive.
Pay is low compared to other states. Makes you feel like you aren't valued.
A peer does the scheduling on most units. Leads to conflicts.
Almost impossible to get the days off work that you request, even months in advance.
Patient to nurse ratios are high
Outsourcing just about everything they can to save a buck and letting go people who have been there for many years

    Advice to Management

Lower the nurse to patient ratios if safety is truly a top concern.
Pay better. It will lead to better quality staff.
Take care of your staff with better benefits and stop discriminating and shaming them based on the size and health. It's not motivational, rather actually humiliating. I don't even use the insurance, I have just seen the struggle from friends.
