I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay
    Great coworkers
    Benefits offered
Always got hours by the end of the week
Regional director very personable and seems to care about what is going on in locations

    Cons

Time off has to be requested months in advance
CEUs are mostly live and not user friendly
Shortage of staff. Registered therapists often had a very large workload
Contract states only 35 hours per week for full time
Work hours unpredictable (but that’s the nature of SNF work)
During & after a snow storm, many employees snowed in or unable to drive safely to work, Genesis sent an email stating you are required to complete your hours no matter the circumstances-came across threatening.
Nursing & Therapy relationship very strained

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to employees to see who is working hard and who is not.
DORs can be neglectful to patients, treating from a distance behind their desk.
Perhaps take a survey every so often to ask about job satisfaction in order to have a better idea of how things are going, including how individuals are performing.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large nation-wide company (able to transfer if moving), offers benefits, offers retirement plan (matches after 6 years), offers education appropriate for job role (CPR, IV class, wound care class)

    Cons

No pay raise in past 3 years, almost always working short-staffed, high nurse-to-patient ratio, high turnover, very little support from management

I worked at Genesis HealthCare part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of hours in the beginning.

    Cons

The people who have never worked anyplace else are very jealous of new people. They weren't required to have CT Boards to work in CT. It was very uncomfortable to work with some employees because they would train you incorrectly to see you fail.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are running their tails off and management doesn't care. They don't care because they are getting a huge bonus for keeping their numbers high.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

$1000 sign on bonus, $50 bonus for picking up additional shifts, PTO, full benefits for full-time employees, referral bonus, tuition reimbursement after working for a certain period of time, after 6 months you can transfer to a genesis anywhere else if you move and have a position waiting for you.

    Cons

A lot of the staff aren’t very helpful, some of the staff are very rude, and it feels like sink or swim after the first week and a half after starting. You have to figure a lot out on your own because although employees appear to be helpful at first not all of them are actually that way.

    Advice to Management

Do something about the long-term employees who treat other people terrible. A few people have told me they’ve already reported a few of their co-workers and nothing is being done. Certain employees are making the job not worth continuing employment because it becomes emotionally draining. Instead of doing their job, they are focused on newer people’s jobs and just sitting around watching YouTube or harassing others about doing their job wrong. I have firsthand experiences this while working.
