I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They probably won't ever fire you

    Cons

Worked here for 7 years and it was terrible. They had no respect for employees and let the residents treat employees how ever they wanted.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

Residents are a joy to serve.

    Cons

Training is minimal, life work balance is tipped to more work, everyone is for themselves team environment is non existent. The main focus is money and not residents

    Advice to Management

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Train employees before they start their duties. Supply a curriculum.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

They know how to say the right things to avoid nonpayment and will teach you how to do it, too.

    Cons

Try to save money by cutting benefits, 8 days pto PER YEAR, $540 per month for healthcare for family with high deductible and out of pocket, lowering pay for incoming staff, financially circling the drain.

    Advice to Management

Pay staff what they are worth rather than hoping that senior staff leave so they can hire new grad.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

The money was better than nursing homes I have worked in.

    Cons

This place was understaffed, the management didn't seem to do much when there were issues. Back BREAKING work and no not your typical nursing home back breaker. AGAIN understaffed, I still have nightmares about working there and having to take care of dozens and dozens of people alone. Too many agency workers coming in over time with bad attitudes and having no idea where to go or what to do. Mandatory overtime is a real thing and it will probably give you a heart attack. There should be a LAW against having an every day understaffed nurse and CNA team when having to work mandatory overtime. It was bad for my family, my mood, and my health to work here.

    Advice to Management

Replace management with people who care about the health of their nurses and CNAs

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Paycheck, terrible wages with no hope EVER for a raise

    Cons

Ethics and professionalism violations throughout building and senior management. Smoking mirrors and splitting is the preferred management style, truth is believe 0 of what you are promised/told.

    Advice to Management

Housecleaning of top/upper layers of management. Pay, wages and benefits below average and tell the truth, very unlikely to happen-established culture ? To the very top.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

My co workers were great people.

    Cons

Many co workers just didn't care about the patients since they were underpaid understaffed and unhappy. No supplies available anywhere. Budget cuts everywhere! All they care about is profits but management won't share their profits with the staff. Benefits are horribly overpriced. No tuition reimbursement. No 401k match. Every one calls out and most of the time you work short staffed with an even bigger workload and patient to nurse ratio

    Advice to Management

Stop being so greedy and cheap!

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers that work well together, are supportive and a pleasure to be with. Great nurse educator, sharp and eager to teach. The building is in a lovely country setting.

    Cons

Low salary, expensive benefits, poor raises, managers with no leadership skills or vision. Nothing for residents to do, the Recreation Dept is three people for 180 residents. Equipment is very old - computers, phones, lift devices.

    Advice to Management

Come visit and see how rundown, broken and old all of the computers, phones, beds, Hoyer lifts and linens are.

    Pros

There are none. Every day that passes it gets worse and worse

    Cons

Salaries are terrible, they cut and cut at the expense of safe staff to pt ratios, the food is terrible, Hager just reconfigured regions in order to fire more staff and save more $

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes to what is happening. Genesis is going to ruin itself.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you need to relocate, there is probably an opening wherever you are going. Some good education programs. Love my team members

    Cons

High productivity even for their DORS. It is difficult to take time off and you are only allowed a day or two at a time. My manager and upper management used to be great, but those people left a long time ago and have been replaced with people who only care about profits. Patients and employees are an afterthought. Health benefits are expensive, especially if you have a family. Pay freeze for the last 2-3 years.

    Advice to Management

    Happy employees=happy patients=better outcomes
