    Pros

Good people. For the most part, I've met some amazing ppl working for Genesis. That's about the best thing you can count on working here.

    Cons

They expect certain positions to take on 50 different roles. So it seems that the employees are pretty underpaid & they're not quite seeing their value.

    Advice to Management

Pump up the pay. Minimize the amount of roles per position. This company is in the healthcare field so they can't act like they don't have the funds to do so.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing co-workers, wonderful team leader, great overall teamwork for most of my years there. I learned so much, and there was never a boring moment. Being bust constantly makes time fly! Positive reinforcement from Manager and Director, which goes a very long way as far as the effect on employee moral. They always did something really thoughtful for appreciation week, etc. They treated their staff with respect and understanding, which of course in turn fosters loyalty from staff. Many wonderful people throughout the company.

    Cons

Benefits not affordable and almost seemed pointless, no 401(k) match.
Poor overall communication throughout company as the company grew very quickly. Micromanagement in several departments, but not overall, which you're going to find at any company this large. Many employees were offended by the raises, when they were actually given. No fair system in place for raises either, so some employees take advantage by doing just the bare minimum amount of work, while others are forced to pick up that slack. No penalty for the slackers, no reward for the ones carrying more weight.

    Advice to Management

Please don't underestimate the value of communication, when staff are uninformed it makes it twice as hard to do the jobs you pay them to do. Clear communication = efficiency. Employee Appreciation is very nice, please keep up the good work on this! Perhaps shop around for health insurance that is more affordable for company and staff. Also, you probably shouldn't push politics on your employees e.g. mandatory attendance when you invite someone to speak. It creates more resentment than anything else and is just not a tasteful practice.
Also the centers are not held accountable in any way when they show complete disregard for policies and procedures., which is a nearly daily occurrence. This makes it nearly impossible to enforce anything, which of course results in chaos.
Employees could do their jobs so much better if they had management backing them on the rules that are in place. This goes all the way up to the top, When centers are constantly granted an "exception" it simply becomes the norm.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rewarding , always hours to work

    Cons

Low pay, stressful environment, bad staffing

    Advice to Management

Make your company more about your residents and your employees. Working through Genesis is like working for any other corporate company. You get paid like crap for the amount of hard work you put in, facilities are chaotic and always understaffed, residents don't get the care they deserve even though they pay a ridiculous amount per month!!! How about instead of giving yourself and other well paid cooperate members bonuses PAY YOUR NURSING ASSISTANTS BETTER and maybe give us a bonus. Maybe if that happened, facilities wouldn't always be so understaffed. We work long, hard hours in horrible conditions. RESIDENTS DESERVE BETTER CARE

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

If you get a good facility & team - you're co-workers will turn into family. There are a surplus of Employee Benefits that include monthly appreciation in form of food, gift cards/movie tickets, goods, and company branded gifts.

    Cons

Unless you negotiate your pay/salary you will be stuck with the lowest possible.
Staffing can be a nightmare given to the first reason list; turn over rates are high. This can lead to major burnouts to licensed staff pulling doubles to get bare minimum coverage. Communication between management/staff on a professional level leaves a lot to be desired.

    Advice to Management

Be more open and competitive to base salary. Some offers to health care or administrative professionals are down right insults. Be in touch with each individual demographic (cost of living, average family size, ) and refresh your pay rate it's just awful.
