    Pros

Health Benefits and flexible schedules are good. PTO time is good for starting out.

    Cons

To much freedom given to program managers. Upper level management cares about middle management, not employee's.Upper level management is nice but they tend to let managers at the facility level play politics and have pet employee's that get away with murder IE working half days and getting paid for full. Disproportionate case loads and disrespect shown to assistants. A lot of turn over in therapy departments and fights between OT' PT and ST. Company has a continuous campaign to turn over staff and replace them with new grads to increase manager bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Ask employee's to grade their managers anonymously. Then do something about it besides firing or forcing out the employee's the manager doesn't like.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Variety of sites at which to work
    Benefits (were) better than most

    Cons

Management creates an obstacle between the staff and upper management
Staff is considered to be easily replaced
Patient care is second place to profit and company politics
This is no rehab company you want to work for

    Advice to Management

Listen to your therapists and stop putting so much faith into your management. Your staff is what makes your money, treats the patients and makes GRS what is it..not the managers and directors you put so much blind faith into. I've never seen a company lose so many employees while retaining crooked, unethical and inept managers.

    Pros

Cant think of a good reason to work there. Its a very hostile and negative work environment.

    Cons

Pay is low, employees are not treated with any repect. Residents are ignored by nursing staff due to pressure from administration and supervisors. Constant employee turnover. Employees are fired if they report misconduct by supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff with some respect. Treat your residents like you would want to be treated or how you would want your family treated.

No idea about anything going on, Only push therapist to get minutes. Money Money Money- Interested in hiring dumb new grad- grads agree to take job to pay for their tutions and get stuck there. HR department works for Program managers. Eventually they will be reported to medicare fraud. offices are dirty and no resources. Managers are cheap wont even buy a coffee or contribute to monthly parties. Managers so cheap that they bring their dogs to work. Managers plays on their iphone and disrespective if you confront them. area managers kiss the ass of managers and becomes deaf if you complain. IN SHORT PLEASE DONT JOIN THIS COMPANY

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Other therapists who try to provide decent patient care

    Cons

This is absolutely the worst company I've ever worked for. They lie to employees to try to get them to come and work for them and then treat them like slaves. Ethical behavior is discouraged by high productivity standards. PTO days are difficult to get approved unless your productivity stays unreasonably high.

    Advice to Management

How do you sleep at night? Your only motivation seems to be power and greed.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, pay, therapy team who stick together due to being in the same boat, more choices for places to work.

    Cons

Productivity!!! Pt care not as important as $$$. I was expected to cover other facilities sometimes an hour to 2 hours from my home. I hated the I touch for documentation and picking up Pts for caseload knowing they could not benefit from the service . Managers fake concern about problems and you always feel like you are expendable and will be dropped at any second at their whim. I am looking for a smaller company with possible less pay but more concern with therapist and their patients.

    Advice to Management

Spend a week in our shoes trying to keep up with your expectations and remember who is making you your money.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

If you can carve out a nano-second to actually talk to residents you will enjoy them. Some of the management level staff is supportive and willing to lend a hand but they are often as frustrated as the staff on the carts or floor. This leads to a very high turnover rate.

    Cons

Nurses usually have more patient care than they can possibly accomplish in the time you are given yet you are " in trouble" if you work overtime for your shift .Some nurses seem to be solving this problem by signing for work not done. If you try to do things the right way you will be resented by those taking shortcuts. Just try telling one that you will not take a controlled substance that has been taped back into a card. I hate to write this review that might leave the residents with even less care but feel that something needs to be done as the current residents are at risk, High turnover with the DON position might make the management take a look at what is happening.

    Advice to Management

You keep losing nurses because they feel they are unable to do a good job with the amount of work that is required. Good nurses like to feel that they are doing a good job. You need to higher more nurses and give them less residents to care for. Mandatory overtime/double shifts is risky to residents and no way to staff a facility. I stayed long enough to give Genesis and the new DON time to change things but was disappointed in their efforts.

I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There were lots of updated equipment and remodels to rooms and bathrooms. There were only a few employees that were helpful and kind.

    Cons

Oh goodness where to begin? Iv never in my life had so many issues with an employer. First of all, during the interview process they outright lie and fabricate almost everything when it comes to caring about their employees. In reality they are nothing more than mules pulling the proverbial cart. Often given more than can be done in a set amount of hours. If they tell you "We would rather an employee stay home sick than come in sick." don't believe it for a minute! They don't care if someone is half dead, if they are breathing and can walk they are forced to stay. Nevermind that half the residents refuse their care to a sick person. They are told to "just get it done" when the patient or resident becomes excessively combative, or refuses time and time again. Half the time your so busy you never get a lunch break. Basically they paint a fake portrait over the real mural of what really goes on. Not to mention the outright entitlement complexes of just about everyone. People are snobs. If you call in sick for one day they talk about you and tell the boss to fire you even though those are the very same people who call off the first chance that they get. Scheduling is ridiculous. They take random names and stick them wherever they can without days being too clustered together. It isn't thought out at all. It is often messed up. There's a reason some companies have a big turnout. Always be wary and stay away from companies like that.

    Advice to Management

Wake up! Screw your vacation plans! Screw your child's soccer game! Get with the program and be the boss you always wanted to be! You want us to respect you and like you? Make us believe it!
