I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of longevity and room for growth. Most staff is easy to get a long with. Computerized charting simplifies work load . Fun place to work.

    Cons

Nursing shortage in Kansas city means lots of need. This is a problem for staffing ratios. Sometimes work short. Management offers bonuses on top of overtime for picking up shifts.

    Advice to Management

Be more on top of staffing. Institute mandatory overtime for management nurses and floor staff or raise pay for staff to compensate. DON should be available to approach and not in administrator's office all day.

    Pros

Lots of room to grow and continuing education opportunities

    Cons

Revolving door for directors, which made for unrest at times. Also hard to take off work at times during holidays

    Advice to Management

Allow your staff to use PTO!

    Pros

I absolutely love the employees that work at my location.

    Cons

    If you're a salary employee, don't expect a 40 hour work week. You'll work closer to 50-60.

    Advice to Management

Offer raises and/or bonuses to good employees. We have people at my location that have been there for 15-20 years and have had MAYBE one small raise.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Many hours available to work and many shifts to choose from plus they hire new grads. and they offer many benefits.

    Cons

They offer so many hours that you can get burnt out. Many shifts end late also. You can start an eight hour shift and be there for 12 hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep track if your employees. See what is working and what is not. Be willing to work side by side with employees to see for yourself what is happening.

It is challenging at times when you have to travel but overall a wonderful experience to work for Genesis. I dislike using the ipad to bill and do documentation but you do get accustomed to it

I worked at Genesis HealthCare (More than a year)

    Pros

Because of the large company size, there was access to a large peer community for ideas and input, good continuing education opportunities.

    Cons

Large company mentality with push for productivity, not as bad as some other companies I have worked for. Push for higher RUG minutes regardless of specific patient need.

    Advice to Management

Come and treat the patients every now and then to keep your head in the "real world" of the treating therapists.
