Manager

How to deal with horrid bosses? I work at a rehabilitation center. I'm the only manager. I mean reports, referrals, calls, charges, hospital, data input, tech duties, scheduling (3 seperate schedules to be done. Including handwritten, electronic, and excel). Not to mention when a therapist comes in (we have 6-9 currently), I have to drop everything i am doing and assist them. On top of all my daily duties. I'm not allowed to miss work. Even came into work sick more than once with fever.

    Pros

NO micromanagement. They treat employees with respect and understand that I have a life outside of my work. Flexible schedule is fabulous and they offer a 4 day workweek. Great co-workers that care about their jobs and take pride in their work. My upline supervisor, manager and director are approachable and easy to work with. Really makes me happy to work with and for them.

    Cons

    No negative comments to list.

    Pros

They are always short on staffing and its easy to get per diem hours...sometimes weekend schedule is unrealistic!

    Cons

Genesis pays full time therapists peanuts, its surprising they get anyone to hire FT. Nurses in most Genesis buildings are union. They could care less. They give spotty care and will leave patients in their own waste for hours. I love to do ADL's with my patients and this ensures they get some good care, but, most times, you will not find a towel or bottle of cleanser anywhere on the unit for ADL's!!!! Honestly, I don't know how the state reviewers don't get to shut some of these places down. It's atrocious. Therapists are of course stressed out and disrespected by nursing because they demand better care of their patients. One time a CNA refused to Hoyer a patient out of bed for a therapy session and proceeded to tell me that I should be seeing him in bed anyway. When I called the nursing supervisor to report, she too turned against me and sent me back to the aid saying I had to work with the CNA. Needless to say, the patient remained in bed all day and missed treatment! Another CNA that did not want to get a patient washed and dressed said to me, "what are you doing with him anyway...he's too sick to have therapy." Genesis management close their eyes to all this substandard care, pay the big fish huge dollars, while therapists slave away daily, trying to provide gold standard care in despicable conditions. Therapists carry these buildings financially but are the least recognized. Nursing and union call the shots!!!!
