I have been working at Genomic Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Genomic Health is the first company I worked for after college and it's been a wonderful stepping stone in my career. I'm surrounded by colleagues I can learn from and have a boss that cares about my personal development. The company is always evolving that work isn't redundant and there is always new challenges. Excellent company culture and execs/management are welcoming and kind.

    Cons

There is a wish for more perks - better carpool options, free meals, more team offsides.
Five buildings makes it hard to travel from meeting to meetings.

    Advice to Management

Keep having faith in your employees and trust them to do good work.

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time

    Pros

Great community-driven culture that focuses on patient care, while still maintaining a positive and friendly work environment.
Career-wise it's a great place to learn and grow. You can see examples from Accessioning, the Analytical Lab or Histology where people have been able to develop and take on new roles and responsibilities. I think this reflects very well on the company as well as the mentors we have in Leadership.

    Cons

It might not be a good fit for people who like to remain static, as things are always evolving and improving.
Changes and process improvements often require buy-in from several other groups, which can be difficult for people who come from jobs where you can make changes with little to no buy-in.
The scope of technical work on the laboratory side is not as expansive as it might be in a Hospital, but that is simply the nature of the business.

    Advice to Management

Continue to promote this positive work environment (people appreciate it!). Continue to focus on developing (and retaining) internal talent. Most of all, please continue to bring patient ambassadors to visit/speak. It's so important to maintain the connection to our patients, and nothing makes us happier than seeing someone who's life we were able to impact.

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Intelligent coworkers
    Strong mission and core values
    Interesting and challenging work
    Good work-life balance
Very competitive pay and vacation/holiday benefits
Friendly culture and management makes you feel valued
Good mix of some executives who have been with the company for 10+ years, for continuity, and some great new hires who can bring in fresh ideas and perspectives.

    Cons

No place is perfect. There are a few annoyances, but the pros far outweigh the cons.
    401K match is minimal
Very few perks, e.g. poor food choices, low travel and recognition expense budgets .
Decision making at the top can be slow and decisions are sometimes poorly communicated.
IT group is severely bloated and ineffective and has been for years.

    Advice to Management

More timely decision-making and stronger communication of decisions. Better understand the IT organization and its issues and do something about it. Employees have been talking about these two issues for years. .

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've been at Genomic Health for a few years and have seen the ups and downs. I've continue to have more good experiences than the downs. They have a good company culture that makes you feel inclusive. Collaboration is key here so working in a team environment will be a must. They have great products helping those with cancer which gives me a sense of fulfillment. The Happy Hours, bring your kids to work day, celebrating diversity is also good to be part of. It's also an environment where you work closely with key leaders who can make quick and sensible decisions.

    Cons

401K can use some focus. Additionally, bringing more perks such as those provided by our neighbors, Facebook and Google.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing; continue bringing patient ambassadors as it truly inspires us to put a face to those our work is impacting

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working in a cutting edge industry. Financial compensation is excellent. Laid back work environment with excellent work/life balance. Great location and interesting projects. You are given autonomy over your projects for the most part.

    Cons

Somewhat of a nerdy atmosphere. The cafeteria needs a MAJOR revamp. New hire training is too general and doesn't focus on the actual work that will be done.

    Advice to Management

There seem to be many layers of management here with more emphasis on delegation and less emphasis on teamwork. It would be nice if everyone didn't focus so much on their title.

I have been working at Genomic Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My team is positive, works hard, and interacts well with each other. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences, but we allow each other to have diverse opinions and work together to make decisions. I feel appreciated for my thoughts and I am heard.

I also influence change and process improvements easiliy here. When I worked for bigger companies, process change would get slowed down and there was so much red tape for approvals. Here you can make a difference seamlessly.

It is a relaxed atmosphere...you can wear jeans everyday. The executives are approachable and engaging.

Several fun employee events; better than some big company events.

    Good Employee Stock Purchase Program.

    Cons

I would advise increasing the 401K matching. Expand office building since we are growing so much.

    Advice to Management

Keep reinvesting back in the company
