I worked at Gensler as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The whole internship program is well set-up, exposure to a wide range of projects, and have the opportunity to learn different aspects of the company. The best thing is working with a group of really talented and down-to-earth professionals. They are really inspiring, are very willing to help and share. The whole company culture is about sharing, collaboration, and alcohol. Who doesn't enjoy a drink after work with co-workers?

    Cons

Even though there are a lot of opportunities and room for growth, it is challenging for people with little guidance.

I have been working at Gensler full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best work-life balance I've had anywhere (and I've worked at 5 other companies in a variety of industries). Creative and laid-back environment with lots of fun events. Company has a cutting-edge vision despite it being around for over 50 years!

    Cons

Company leadership aren't always on the same page, making it difficult to move forward with initiatives at times. Could be more open/transparent with staff. Salaries could be more competitive, but given the hours aren't as demanding as most places these days, it's generally a fair trade-off. No employer matching for 401k.

    Advice to Management

Remember Art's adage: "Hire great people, and get out of their way" so they can do the work they're qualified to do.

I worked at Gensler full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good for the resume
    High profile projects
    Talented people

    Cons

Little room for advancement, unless you're a brown-noser
Hard to switch projects/ types/ roles in studios (they highly promote this in interviews)
Project managers plays favorites, won't listen to other's opinions
Very profit driven, Project managers care more about the project budget than employees
    Inadequate training
Lack of collaboration/ coordination between project & design staffs
Pay lower than industry standard, trick you with the overtime pay in the compensation/ benefits, but they don't encourage overtime
    PTO below industry standards
More of an interior design firm than architecture.

    Advice to Management

    none

    Pros

Fast paced environment. Beautiful view, centrally located.

    Cons

Workplace dynamics are left unresolved and employees tend to create small circles and cliches. Introvert based personalities, women and marginalized communities and narratives are not appreciated. Lack of cultural competency. Lots of power and privilege dynamics which go unquestioned. Management too busy to check in with staff. Staff is very stressed and often cannot enjoy the many events created to enhance workplace culture. Forced vibe- lack of authenticity, the whole thing seems fake.
