I have been working at Gensler full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

The Gensler “kool aid” is in large the great people that work there. There are perks like coffee, snack, learning resources, lots of lunch and learns, great tech tools, but the main reason to stay there through the years is the community of people that welcome you and mentor you.

    Cons

The promotions process is very much like a popularity contest given the global size of the firm, it’s not uniquely based on offices and that makes it hard for introverts to be recognized for their hard work accurately. While there are lots of educational tools and opportunities within the firm it it hard to understand how to best approach the professional growth.

    Advice to Management

I believe management needs to be more transparent about billing rates, and clarify the billing rate gaps, specifically among new lateral hires and the people to commit to Gensler across the years. There should also be more transparency on the appointment process so that it doesn’t continue to feel like a popularity contest. There needs to be more discussion and clarification on other growth/promotion opportunities.

I have been working at Gensler full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Biggest is definitely great people. Everybody is nice, helpful and smart. Also values design a lot. You won't see anything that is not pretty. Work environment is physically and mentally open, which is awesome. Everybody gets sig-stand desk - the fav things at work.

    Cons

Very low pay (at least for junior positions) and very hard to get "more" raise even if you perform well and you are paid much lower compared to market. Benefits are just ok as well. Technologies (software) are old. Junior talents don't stay long term. New York office has bad work/life balance compare to other offices. No career path and talent development for "non-design" positions. Leadership doesn't know what junior...

    Advice to Management

Embrace technology changes. Keep up with the process and tools. Talk to junior people. You should value technical as important as design. Without implementation, pretty renderings are just renderings after all. Think about why your talents are leaving.

I worked at Gensler full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Some great people below the management level. Great clients.

    Cons

The work can be a bit boring as the bottom line is always budget and not creativity or design. A lot of hierarchy and bureaucracy despite the "flat structure." Too much favoritism amongst the chosen few. There is no value in having so many development programs if the same few people are involved in all of them and no one else is given an opportunity to shine.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, especially when they tell you something they are passionate about or have an interest in (or even experience in!), there is a lot of potential and untapped talent in the company.
