I have been working at Gentex (Michigan) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Quarterly bonus, employee picnics at Michigan Adventure, Potlucks. There is advancement and job shadow opportunities, as long as your manager is okay with it.

    Cons

If a manager you work for doesn't like you, they can prevent you from going anywhere.

I worked at Gentex (Michigan) (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company had very large bonuses averaging from 16-22% quarterly (taxed a ton as all bonuses are). Many different areas doing vastly different things and using different technology. There is a lot of different jobs you can move in to and advancing technology you can learn. However,......

    Cons

Pay was and still is to my knowledge WELL below industry standard. Production Support Engineers start out around $40k a year, that's with a shift premium and working on an off shift. It's hard to get from an off shift to days. Do your research, you can easily make $15-20k a year more in this area. The jobs that are available too you are vast, however there is quite the sense of brother-hood and commaraderie that makes a lot of them difficult to obtain. They tend to lead you in the direction of where they need you, not what's best for you long term. A lot of demand, and poorly planned resources means you work a ton of overtime and weekends.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on your entry-to-mid level engineers (or any employee in general) and focus on what they want to do long term and what their strengths are. Also, readdress your pay scale. This would be highly beneficial in retaining very qualified, driven individuals.

    Pros

    Laid-back atmosphere.
Great opportunity to learn new things.
    Smart coworkers.
    Cutting edge technology.

    Cons

The pay is nowhere near what other companies offer.
Expected to work crazy hours if you do anything related to production.
You'll have to getting raises for years to make what other people entering the work force are making.

    Advice to Management

Offer people a much higher starting salary and boost the current salaries for employees.

I worked at Gentex (Michigan) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice Bonuses and point system so you control if you are going to get fired

    Cons

Large turnover rate most employees I have experienced don't last longer than 7 months. Also certain groups or shifts are treated better than others

    Advice to Management

Focus on treating people equally and help show workers how they can move up in the company better

I worked at Gentex (Michigan) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    No fault attendance policy.
    Good Vacation, Benifits, Time off
    Yearly Bonuses.
Room for advancement within the company.
Easy work if you can keep up with rates.

    Cons

Hours flucuate greatly from less than 40 hours to 60 hours a week depending on the line you work for.
Difficult to get time off around the holidays.
Poor Communcation between departments can lead to frustration amongst employees.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication between departments. Actually listen to your employees issues instead of just pretending.

    Pros

They treat line workers better than most companies do. Bonuses are great. Overall all the worst place to work.

    Cons

A few of the jobs require non voluntary overtime after shifts and on weekends. The location is also not great for relocating.

    Advice to Management

Nothing really comes to mind. Generally from what I experienced management is respectful, but maybe a little pretentious at times.

I have been working at Gentex (Michigan) full-time

    Pros

Profit Sharing bonus is distributed quarterly, which is nice. Many mid-level folks care about the work being done and want to improve the company day by day.
    Good benefits.
401K and stock purchase programs open to all employees.

    Cons

Despite the "commitment to innovation," ideas to improve many things are often frowned upon. Severely understaffed in our department, we're leaps and bounds behind many other areas of the company. Being frugal doesn't lead to being efficient when you're working with outdated process, equipment, etc.
There are a few low level support staff members who are completely unqualified to be in their jobs. I get that it's difficult to hire people (especially when you can't compete with other companies salaries), but I'd rather have more work stacked on my plate than see others incompetence screw my hard work up daily.
Working seven days a week in our department, lack of a plan to deal with it by management.

    Advice to Management

It's clear that the leadership "cares" about the workers, but it would be nice to have some transparency with how and why we aren't doing many of the things we're said to be doing. Innovation? I haven't the time to do anything but put out fires because we can't plan out expansion of a department and support it with adequate staff.
