I have been working at Gentiva (Less than a year)

    Pros

opportunity to help patients and improve their lives briefly

    Cons

management pushes so hard that patients suffer from not getting proper care while the staff is rushing from one appointment to another

    Advice to Management

walk the walk and care for the end patients.

I have been working at Gentiva part-time

    Pros

Loved seeing and refreshing my nursing skills with wounds and several different medical conditions!

    Cons

Very poor communication, changes to schedule without verbal communication, email only, no report received on new clients, expected to travel between 3 counties in a day and when asked for a change hours are denied or "no clients in your area this week " I was told (via email)
Over worked, extra time on your expense spent charting (especially if RN)

    Advice to Management

    Communicate
    Support
Be a team player and not a dictator

I worked at Gentiva full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. I made $60,000 my first year there. 120 hours of PTO off.

    Cons

Horrible micromanaging. I felt my knowledge and 8 yrs of experience was constantly questioned and being told by management "I'm sorry to hear that" when I voiced legit concerns. Expect you to see 12-15 patients in one day in 5 counties and being told to move visits to the next day when you already have 10 pr more visits the next day. Orders not being put in a time,y fashion. RNs overwhelmed with scheduling and paperwork which had a domino effect on me. I did home health for 7 years and the last year of my two years at Gentiva nearly broke me.

    Advice to Management

Actually utilize your resources as a manger. Take confidence in your clinicians. If you can't then maybe you shouldn't have hired them to begin with.

I worked at Gentiva full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Wide variety of company benefits

    Cons

Upper management micromanaging every little process to suit their own likes. One or two upper mangers enjoyed being intimidating toward office management and staff.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging the branches when they are running productively and smooth. If you want your staff to stay, be nice, stop with the demeaning and intimidating talk.

    I worked at Gentiva full-time

    Pros

None, uncaring about its employees or their families

    Cons

Micro management at its worse. Don't bother to file a complaint with upper management, they are all about covering for each other. To the managers, it getting the numbers to get their bonuses. Why send a nurse to a pts home 70 miles away, when there was a gentiva office less than 20 miles away??

    Advice to Management

    Stay away

I worked at Gentiva full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers were for the most part pleasant to work with. Made lasting friendships with some of them.

    Cons

Tons of micro-management. Oppressive work atmosphere. Money is the bottom line with this organization. They do not care about the needs of the elderly. It's all about the money.

    Advice to Management

Total restructuring of management starting at the top.
