I have been working at Gentiva full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Wonderful co-workers (not the managers). Free coffee and chocolate chip cookies.

    Cons

Lousy, old girl club style management, extremely poor benefits, nurses overworked, poor communication, no review or raise in three years.

    Advice to Management

Start acting like part of a team; let your employees know what you expect in all positions, not just the nursing staff. Give proper training when switching from paper medical records to electronic medical records; have an IT person on-site. Act like the mega company you are and treat your employees right. If you are not going to care about us stop sending out feel good emails saying that we are the most important part of the company; obviously, we are not that important to you at least in the hospice division. Get rid of the old girls who are there running the show in our office and get people in there who will manage things correctly.

They pay well. The staff is good to work with and you have strong relationships with patients.

    Cons

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, so called training. Many times mgmt. has no idea what to do so they blame you.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together. If you only want experienced help that is fine but communicate your expectations to your staff. You set people up for failure.

I worked at Gentiva (Less than a year)

    Pros

Loved working with patients at home and facilities during their journey toward the end of life needs, while maintaining dignity, one on one patient care, palliative care, wound management, offering compassionate care while utilizing the nursing process: ongoing assessments, evaluations, care planning and goal documentation of expected changes and outcomes in effort to alleviate fears and offer comfort ,love , and compassion.

    Cons

Very poor management. Made to work excessive overtime, and, forced to falsify time sheets to meet 40 hour work week when actually work 60-80 hr work week. Forced to work with MD orders not to work when ill and inevitably causing employees to be hospitalized. This happened to myself as well as 2 other collegues. We don't plan or ask to be sick!

    Advice to Management

To have compassion toward their hard working staff as they expect us to have toward our sick patients.
