    Pros

    Good, conservative company. Been around for a very long time. Promotes from within. Cares about employees. Good benefits. Promotes diversity and good worklife balance. People retire from the company after 30 plus years there.

    Cons

    This is a parts selling company. It is not an IT company. The IT department struggles with getting the upper management to let the IT department become best in class. Initiatives are started but unfortunately IT industry best practices are not followed through and thus projects fall behind or not completed efficiently. The IT professionals end up going above and beyond to meet deadlines. Everyone is professional and gets the job done, despite upper management.

    Upper management needs to listen to their IT leadership and let them run the IT department as it should be.

    Pros

    First year, raises every 3 months, good benefits

    Cons

    Management does not care about people in their departments but instead how they can look better to the Executives and above. Not sure how some executives are still there when most of their department is gone due to the executive. Best part about leaving was the stress was left behind.

    Advice to Management

    Care about your employees health instead of what kind of numbers you can receive from sales. Employees working late and on weekends and no time with family. Family life is important to everyone.

    Pros

    Good benefits. Many good people to work with.

    Cons

    Too many hours. Stress level very high. Stores open every holiday except Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

    Advice to Management

    Lighten the work load on store managers. Stores are not fully staffed. Shorten the holiday hours so employees can enjoy them with their family and friends. The company has followed the competition with being open long hours on holidays. If we, as a company would close, say on the 4th of July or Labor day, and promote it as a way to show we care about our employees, I would bet the competition would follow our lead. Being open almost regular store hours on holidays in reality costs the company money with wages, utilities, etc. As an example, being open 8am until 5pm on New Years day is ridiculous. Many store managers work that day, but don't have any customers until about 10am, if that. Mostly the store manager gets year end paperwork together and cleans things up and that's it. Wouldn't 10am until 2pm be good enough? Being open 9-10 hours requires more people on duty.

    Good benefits; work from home one day a week; jeans on Fridays

    Cons

    Old-fashioned, straight laced company; IT department is 25 years behind in its technology; must use third party consulting firms too much because the right talent is not available in house

    TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING; invest in your own people to eliminate the need for high dollar consultants

    Pros

    Good benefits, profit sharing, insurance, 401 retirement and discount on parts purchases. Always something to learn and endless product offerings to sell.

    Cons

    Corporate mentality that is out of touch with the needs of their customers. The company could be 10x what it is if it had competent management and understood customer service.

    Advice to Management

    Poor management starts at the top down and the people at the lower rungs of the ladder can only be as good as the management above allows them to be. The business model is antiquated and lacks progressive vision.

    - Stable company - Good benefits - Great location

    Cons

    - Good ole boy culture is very much alive - No career advancement opportunities - Incompetent people are promoted / hired - Unethical and dishonest management - Little to no accountability - Employees are disrespected and not valued - Unstructured and chaotic work place

    Advice to Management

    - Listen to and value the employees with years of experience at the company. - Stop doing the perfunctory employee surveys without taking genuine action. - Provide the employees monetary rewards when record sales quotas are exceeded instead of the barbeque & pasta lunches.

    I have been working at Genuine Parts Company

    Pros

    Somewhat decent management, flexible with time off, good benefits with 5% 401k match, easy work, little stress, and no long hours.

    Cons

    Dull corporate culture, horrible internal communication between management and subordinates, mundane and repetitive work, low salary compared to industry standard.

    Advice to Management

    Communication and salary for employees needs to be stepped up considerably. I can't count how many times a new initiative or program has not been communicated until there was a departmental mistake made.
