I have been working at Genuine Parts full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Incentive programs employee discount. Vacation after 6 months. Water coolers, working vehicles.

    Cons

Awful policies, racism, descrimination write ups for being sick and working overtime! Ignoring management descrimination. Can't have insurance unless it's backdated. You will pay a lot! Inventory counts that are off the day of and the day after inventory. Nothing is organized there is four different places to put everything. Inventory replenishment system works half the time only if even that. Oil is selling for $4.20 a qt when it is purchased for $1.78. You are expected to know who people are when they call and say hi this is Bill. For a corporation that has operated this many Years There is no concrete policies everything is fluid. Credit card machines are completely manual. Stores are impossibly understaffed. I spend a lot of time working punched out. If you go one minute over 40 hours you get written up as it is unauthorized overtime. If you leave sick even if it is legitimate, you are written up for leaving work without permission. As there are no policies in place that actually work properly your manager can change everything in a split second and then write you up for not knowing how to do your job. Human resources we'll just ignore you out right. There is to be no sharing of cash registers yet it goes on constantly. You are entirely responsible for your computer so if anyone touches it you get in trouble. Things that go on sale are usually not even in stock. Not to mention the random distribution center orders in the middle of the day. Regularly they send us tons of pallets at any random moment of the day. The inventory scanning system is setup stupidly to beep multiple times to try and tell you where that part belongs whether it be stock for a customer or on the sales floor. There is this absolutely awful customer support line for every single thing you want to do. I spend more time waiting for phone calls from places like Georgia than I do quoting parts. We price match but I was told not to price match and yelled at by management. Lots more. R.U.N!

    Advice to Management

    Cons

You MUST be at work 08:00 and you have no permission to leave until 05:00PM. No work from home. This company living in 60s or 70s and People who working even Technical jobs treated as unprofessionally. They always talk about "Culture" come-on GPC Making a better place to work is the "Culture". Look at Google, Amazon, Facebook how their work environment looks like, learn from them and at least try.
Most importantly Stop thinking about "Cheap" labor.
Please Don't join you will be treated "CHEAP" as their policies.

    Advice to Management

Shame on your Management team... Think about it GPC need top level talents to take company to the next level. Losing them is not an option for company's growth.

I worked at Genuine Parts full-time

    Pros

Stable company that has been around for a long time.

    Cons

Projects are not managed to scope, time, cost, or quality. Delivery dates are routinely extended, sometimes indefinitely, and the final delivered product is usually reduced in scope. Management has no qualms with standing up in a status meeting and ensuring both participants and customers alike that they are indeed following the highest ISO quality standards even with the full knowledge that generally, fully developed and written requirements do not actually exist. Career development, training, and promotions generally held for good-ole-boys and a select few that are willing to tow the company line. Extremely high turnover over the last several years and poor morale. Employee surveys taken every other year or so but no real changes follow ...

    Advice to Management

Face the truth regarding the efforts needed to deliver the products. Be truthful in communicating to both customers and employees.

I have been working at Genuine Parts full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable, traditional company that has been around forever. Conservative financial management that moves slow and don't take many risks.

    Cons

The company was innovative in the early years (from the 20's maybe to the 70's) but successive management got content giving maintenance to the "status quo" hence the total lack of imagination I believe will make this company become a new Kmart. The business model is changing and current management will never be able to react to it. Very old school and stuck in the past with a very high opinion of themselves.

    Advice to Management

New blood is needed to revitalize or change an old business model before is too late.
