I worked at Genzyme Genetics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The Genzyme (Integrated Genetics) team is collaborative and patient centric. Todd and Mike are great leaders. LCA has diluted the GG culture. The scientific team may not be the first out of the gate with new technologies; however, once the technology is launched, you can be sure that it a platform/test that is first in its class. The training team is thorough and the sales teams are very knowledgeable in what they sell.

    Cons

Since the purchase of Genzyme by LabCorp; the culture of collaboration and acceptance of sales feedback makes little impact on the leadership team to ignite the change process. The healthcare terrain is brutally competitive. Sales teams need to be laser focused and not be responsible for operational over site, inclusive of billing and collections. Nothing can be more detrimental to a sales relationship than asking your team to be a collection agent.

    Advice to Management

Change old antiquated sales tracking processes. There are way to many requests for reports. There is a CRM in place for a reason. Keep a commission program easy to monitor and impact immediate revenue improvements. In other words, The sales plan is too complex. KISS. Make sure your teams are pounding the pavement and not chained to their computers on a weekly basis. Sales is just that....they are now burdened with a large sum of operational duties which again, forces reps to use phone time/desk time and takes away from face time with your customers. Break the cycle and reinvent the sales comp plan, daily job duties and stream line reporting requirements. The "night before" last minute requests for information from your leadership staff, is not productive for revenue generation. You have great technologies. Please consider taking a deep dive into what your reps are spending their precious selling time on. It should not be operational initiatives or collection efforts.
The RD's and C suite teams at IG are awesome.

    Pros

intelligent colleagues, telecommute flexibility, and local manager

    Cons

low pay, work load, and burnout. Labcorp bought us and has since cut staff, lowered benefits, no raise, increase workload, require BMI for health insurance, and not as great as Genzyme.

    Pros

Had a good culture. Very patient focused, great coworkers. Had a small company feel to it. Was an overall great place to work

    Cons

Was difficult to implement changes. Communication between departments was not always great. Limited career opportunities. IT infrastructure was old and outdated. Was acquired and seemed to be losing some of the things that made it a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose the things that made this a great place to work. Communicate with your employees and spend more money on IT.

I worked at Genzyme Genetics full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I always loved this company. Good benefits, paid vacation, sick , 401(k), good employees, hard workers.

    Cons

Very little room for advancement, micromanagement, its who you know not what you know.

    Advice to Management

Let people with ideas help change what could help processes. Better work-life balance. Overtime always a problem. The same people always doing it and the same people always complaining why they cant. Manangement never rewards people who ACTUALLY do the work. Just the ones with titles regardless of what they do.
