I have been working at George P. Johnson full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

GPJ is in the process of making major culture adjustments in the New York City office. They have done an excellent job hiring young, driven, experienced senior leadership, as well as a fantastic creative and strategy team. You will work a ton including weekends; however, if you have the ability to dedicate the time, the experience is second to none. You will have the opportunity to touch some of the worlds most iconic...

We work a ton. Antiquated systems/processes. Travel too much?

I have been working at George P. Johnson full-time

    Pros

There are some great people who pitch in to help each other succeed. Casual office environment, good benefits, flexible office hours and unlimited fto (which you really can’t use most of the time due to workloads as others said)

    Cons

The work here has taken a bad turn. More of an accounting job than events job. Management completely focused on employees doing client finance work at the compromise of delivering successful events. Most of this work could be automated but due to completely outdated tools and processes be prepared to spend most of your days in excel spreadsheets. Management very out of touch. Pay below industry standard. The culture...

I have been working at George P. Johnson full-time

    Pros

Unlimited FTO but good luck finding time to use it.

    Cons

This office is going downhill quickly. Top performers are completely burned out and not compensated appropriately. What was once a positive work environment has been completely destroyed. Outdated tools and processes make the job near impossible, managers expectations are completely unrealistic. People who haven’t left yet have suffered health wise due to lack of any life balance.

    Advice to Management

No one listens so not worth giving advice at this point

I have been working at George P. Johnson full-time

    Pros

Flexible time off (if you can get your workload done), ESOP, travel, occasionally work from home, peers always willing to help

    Cons

This job is the definition of “overworked and underpaid”. The culture used to make up for it but now I’d add undervalued to the list. Treated like a workhorse instead of a human being. Constantly under pressure of unrealistic deadlines, deliverables and client expectations that seem to never end.

I have been working at George P. Johnson full-time

    Pros

Excellent peers. Talented people who're passionate about what they do work here. High-profile clients across industries. You'll work on interesting projects. Pockets of encouraging leadership. Great place to find your champions. Flexible schedules. Unlimited time off and one-month parental leave is progressive. Work here if you want to learn about top-notch event marketing soup to nuts.

    Cons

Long hours. If you don't set work/life boundaries, they'll be crossed without mercy. The only way to grow your career here is to threaten to leave and get a promotion. Hard to transition to multi-client projects if you start on leading client accounts. Lack of diversity. It's an executive priority year over year that stays unaddressed. Excruciating politics. Highly unproductive. Completely unnecessary.

    Advice to Management

Pay employees fairly for like work. Years of service is an outdated and biased metric. Address your diversity problem. It's been hanging around for years. People notice. Respect work/life balance. If people are on vacation with family, leave them alone.

I worked at George P. Johnson full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Perks that come with any corporate gig plus ESOP for folks who stay long term. No one should stay at the Austin office long term.

    Cons

Austin office is falling apart at the seams. Turn over is huge. Lots of long time employees who helped keep the place running and the culture what it was have left in the last 8-10 months. Leadership is in shambles. Solution appears to simply keep hiring new warm bodies to fill the empty spaces. Salary isn’t nearly enough for the amount of work required to keep the doors open.

    Advice to Management

Until major fixes are in place, more and more people will keep quitting. Replacing people who have years of experience with new people, who need months of training that they aren’t actually getting since senior management has no practical knowledge of how to do the job, doesn’t work.
