I love the people that I work with in my own unit.
Cons
Working across units can be a challenge. It seems like while we all have the same goal of helping students, the collaboration and openness to new ideas and change is just not there. Also, for a higher education institution, the benefits are set up as if it is a corporation. Leave expires during some of the busiest academic times of the year (at most institutions I have worked, leave does not expire), parking is expensive, benefits aren't the best, etc. I have heard that this institution bleeds employees because they don't have great pay or the best HR policies to show employees they are valued.

But whether you can use all of PTO depends on your PI, see if he/she is mean and tough. And you may have to work during weekends and work late during weekdays, so if you really love research and science, this might be fine.
