Accenture

Anyone have experience with an online MPH? I’m looking specifically at George Washington University. Though I’m leaning towards an in person program in my current city for the full experience, I’d also like to weigh my options. For context: would start a program with 4 years of consulting experience post grad. Considering trying to work part time during (20 hours if that’s possible) and I’m pursuing because I want to move away from consulting into high level public / population health roles.

Great unit, not so great collaboration and HR policies

Jan 11, 2023 - Assistant Director of Advising
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

I love the people that I work with in my own unit.

    Cons

Working across units can be a challenge. It seems like while we all have the same goal of helping students, the collaboration and openness to new ideas and change is just not there. Also, for a higher education institution, the benefits are set up as if it is a corporation. Leave expires during some of the busiest academic times of the year (at most institutions I have worked, leave does not expire), parking is expensive, benefits aren't the best, etc. I have heard that this institution bleeds employees because they don't have great pay or the best HR policies to show employees they are valued.

Postdoc position is a lot of hardworking. It is better to make balance between work and life.

Jan 4, 2023 - Postdoctoral Fellow in Washington, DC
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The benefit is good, 21days PTO as a postdoc.

    Cons

But whether you can use all of PTO depends on your PI, see if he/she is mean and tough. And you may have to work during weekends and work late during weekdays, so if you really love research and science, this might be fine.
