I have been working at Georgetown University Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Medstar GUH has a great benefits program with affordable insurance options. Working at the hospital, you have plenty of opportunity to grow and promote to new positions. They do a great job offering additional training courses to make sure you feel comfortable with your position. The HR department is also very friendly, helpful, and responsive.

    Cons

Experience will be different for everyone depending on the department you're working in and who's in charge. The first department I worked in was one of the busiest and most stressful, however, I knew I could always go to my supervisor or administrator for help. They were always willing to assist you and make sure you're doing okay. The current department I work in is much slower paced, but I feel very disconnected with my supervisor and administrator. They are not always responsive or helpful so I have to do my best to train myself on new skills almost every day. (Which can be a good thing). Overall, medstar GUH is a great place to work, just depends on the department.

I have been working at Georgetown University Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Patients are a top priority.

    Cons

Staff, not on the higher end of food chain get treated like second hand citizens. I have been there for more than 4 years and am beyond burnt-out.

    Advice to Management

Treat staff the way you would like your parent or your child treated. Treat them with the utmost respect and the moral would be greater, especially in the centrally scheduling department.

    Pros

Best people to receive care from, not an idea place to work if your in the admin world trying to become a nurse. The job became overbearing and became difficult to move within a medical clinical position.

    Cons

managing the doctors appointments, with little manager help, my experience wasn't the greatest in that department, but coming from back office was great for experience!

I have been working at Georgetown University Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Renowned treatment center. Nurse residency program. Teaching facility. Wonderful nurses, I love the team I work with.

    Cons

Staffing issues. Dated facilities & equipment. Focus is more on recruitment than retention. Salary is not appropriate for the cost of living in DC.

    Advice to Management

Retain your nurses instead of recruiting new grads that will leave before 2 years.
