    Pros

Good hospital to work at. Good benefits and fine nursing and physician staff to work under.

    Cons

Our staff was cronically understaffed, requiring that the work load was frequently heavy. Required working frequently on weekends, and holidays.

    Advice to Management

    Maintain better staffing levels.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Georgetown University Hospital full-time

    Pros

As a new grad RN, I was in a nurse residency program. I really liked my experience there, they had us attend "classes" every month to discuss our progress, meet other new grads, etc.

    Cons

I was on the ortho floor (6 Main) and had a terrible preceptor. Not only did I not get along with her, but she also would disappear and couldn't reach her during critical times (for some reason they didn't give us two phones between us). I asked my manager to switch and she defended the nurse, saying she "is a great nurse" and lectured me instead.
Also hours were bad because I was forced to do both 8 and 12 hour shifts, so I would work 4-5 days a week (instead of 3 like a "typical nursing schedule") with no "overtime" pay.
I knew some nurses had a better time on other floors and only worked 12 hour shifts so I think the problems were within my unit though.

    Advice to Management

Allow opportunities to change preceptors to ensure success of RNs in training
