I worked at Georgia Bureau of Investigation full-time

    Pros

The field of criminal justice is learning about different legalities of the law and how is it applied with in the system. It is a job where at some time you help others, from correcting their criminal record or help assist with getting a job. This job helped me to solve problems and step back understand the way pieces fit together.

    Cons

Not being able to help an individual with a problem they may be experiencing with employment or making a difference in the community.

    Advice to Management

In management one should be able to set clear goals, figuring out what the most important things for them to achieve and stay focused. Think about what the team should or shouldn't be spending time on. Set clear standards for your team. Assume that at some point and time that something will go wrong. In addition be brutally honest with yourself about what's working and what isn't and address immediately.

I have been working at Georgia Bureau of Investigation as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Laid back environment
    -It's a job...

    Cons

    -Lazy management (GCIC)
-A lot of favoritism and nepotism in reference to job placement and promotions
-Almost everyone puts off doing the work that they are paid to do, but complains about not getting raises

    Advice to Management

Everyone in the GCIC department is lazy... you have to hunt people down to do their job, and if you find them they will try to make you do their work. No one wants to do what they are actually paid to do, but will complain about not getting a raise. As far as the favoritism and nepotism goes, I've been there as a contact worker for 3 years, and I've been passed over for 4 jobs. I was even passed over for a permanent job in the department that I work in.. for the very job I've been doing for 3 years!!! The manager has a problem with me, for some reason, and they don't like people that are free thinkers. The only way to get ahead in GCIC and GBI as a whole is the be in the "inner circle". As a black person, they will only hire and promote you if they can use and control you. A word to the wise from someone who knows the inner workings: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. They don't value hard working people... they only use them

    Pros

Good starting place for forensic science. Relaxed atmosphere, many young adults.

    Cons

Forget about getting cost of living raises ever. Forget about getting paid what you are actually worth. Management does not address problem starting employees. Overall morale is pathetic. Upper managment will not fight the state government for raises due to employees being expendable. No scientist not including management position has been there longer than 5 years, that should tell you something. Just a poor poor place to work. Just get a couple years experience and run somewhere else, but if you can avoid it all together please do.

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. Give them the money they deserve and then people would actually stick around and maybe your quality of work would be better.
