I have been working at Georgia Department of Corrections full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Working for the Georgia Department of Corrections provides a steady job with OK but not that good of benefits (life and health insurance and retirement, annual and sick leave).

    Cons

The Georgia department of corrections pays you just enough to keep you at the poverty level. They pay you just enough to get by and live paycheck to paycheck until retirement. They give you leave time, but If you ever want to take a vacation you can't afford to go anywhere so you sit at home. Right now, fast food workers are wanting the minimum wage to be $15/Hr. I don't even make $15/Hr after working for the Georgia...

    Advice to Management

Stop paying outrageous salaries to the higher ups that don't really do that much and start giving raises to the people who are actually working and running the facilities. The Commissioner, Chief of Staff, all the Assistant Commissioners, Directors, and Regional Directors all think and act like they are corporate executives that need to be getting paid big bucks, but unlike corporate executives, they are getting paid...

I worked at Georgia Department of Corrections

    Pros

Acquired leave time for paid vacation and sick leave. State retirement plan. Fairly easy job if you have the correct mindset.

    Cons

Can be very stressful. You have to work long hours with the same amount of pay because you are on salary pay not paid by the hour.

    Advice to Management

Do not micromanage the employee's. Understand that the employee's have a home life and do not want to be treated like they are just chess pawns.
