I worked at Georgia Department of Corrections full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Starting pay 28,000, ability to advance very quickly, lots of avenues to move into, lots of vacation time, sick time, holidays

    Cons

Extremely understaffed, frequently work overtime on salary, asked to do things against policy, but when kaka hits the fan you will be fired, terrible disconnection between upper management and staff.

I worked at Georgia Department of Corrections full-time

    Pros

Stated benefits are decent Holidylays off

    Cons

Dead end job with no room for improvement unless upper management likes you or you grandfathered in from anothet agency. Low wages for low level management and tegular employees Not an environment where learning, training, or open communication is encouraged. Not willing to offer training for usefull techincal skills needed in todays work force. Beware: You'll be just a warm body in a seat and they will try to use you as a scapegoat and as result work towards firung you if you have a strong sense of self.

I have been working at Georgia Department of Corrections full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Job security. You will never be laid off. Understanding and making me enjoy life more.

    Cons

Dangerous environment. Stressful supervisors, Management does not back you and you are just a body to them mostly to fill a spot where they are short. Upper management is divided you have good supervisors that get the job done and will help you out and the other half have been working in the prison so long they only care about themselves and covering themselves and not helping you out as a fellow officer. You don't get paid overtime.. I worked 12+ hours with no break because management wouldn't give me one because they didn't care or we didn't have people. Always worked at-least 13 hours a day .
