I have been working at Georgia Department of Public Health full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

It’s a great work environment you’re not stuck in an office all day and there’s a lot of training provided.

    Cons

It’s very hard to get a raise. You’re supposed to be eligible for a raise and promotion after one year and after all of your training is finished. However I haven’t been able to get a raise yet even after continuously asking.

I worked at Georgia Department of Public Health full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

There are no pros to consider.

        Cons

Low salary, poor management, hostile work environment, no room for promotions to management, had to waste time in human resources for petty fights and other personnel issues, forced to undergo unethical practices in research by including names of coworkers that did not contribute to the work

        Advice to Management

You need to treat honest, hard working, and reliable workers much better than you do. Instead of punishing them by giving them the work of others that would rather slack off and spend their energy harassing honest and intimidating honest workers, promote them to higher levels in a place where they fit in. What I did observe was the promotion of troublemakers more concerned with fancy titles than actually doing work....

I worked at Georgia Department of Public Health full-time for more than a year

        Pros

It’s a steady paycheck with little or no contact with anyone, but is it worth peace of mind?

        Cons

In the WIC section, there is uncouth behavior, there are obnoxious conversations, an unfriendly atmosphere, minimal professional communication, and no accountability. There are no solid procedures in place for simple HR practices. No one provides an orientation for newcomers, and there are no on-boarding checklists to ensure newcomers know the ropes. No one bothers to share simple things, such as the location of the cafeteria...

        Advice to Management

Take the time to hold REGULAR staff meetings so your employees have less time to participate in high school-type behavior in what should be a professional environment. Staff meetings should hold EVERYONE accountable, requiring EVERY individual to provide an update on his or her weekly progress. Although this may seem like micromanagement, it has been proven effective and it has produced some of the most successful organizations....

I have been working at Georgia Department of Public Health full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

Teleworking and holiday time off (13 holidays instead of the usual 12). PTO accrues 5 hours each pay period and your hours roll over so you never lose them. Good place to use as a stepping stone but I wouldn't put down roots here. Too political and messy.

        Cons

Just about everything else is a con. The administration has gone DOWNHILL in the last year. It's been the wild-wild west. Unqualified people are BLATANTLY being promoted as opposed to the "hush-hush" way it used to happen. Opportunities to advance are LOW unless you are friends with those who have the ability hire and fire. HR is a joke. They seem to get rid of people at random. People who are office tyrants stay in their...

        Advice to Management

Throw the whole department away... Burn it to the ground and I don't even know if you should bother to rebuild. DPH only became a stand alone agency 7 years ago, maybe it needs to be reabsorbed into another agency. Y'all wildin!
