I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College part-time

    Pros

The student body is engaged and active. They have a wide course offering. The facilities are beautiful.

    Cons

I don't have any cons. I just come here for work and leave. It's cool.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most people are great to work with; we really focus on student success

    Cons

HIGHLY political for such a small organization. The president is awesome but the cabinet includes some very strange personalities who make work miserable for their employees, and many mid and lower level managers are simply not nice people. We put on a good show that this is a great place to work but there are landmines everywhere due to petty personalities, cliques and politics. Every dept seems to have different policies - some are happy places to work and others are known to be highly stressed and dysfunctional. Managers play favorites. Mediocrity is rewarded and high-performers are taken for granted or even persecuted by less experienced management. There are a lot of things wrong with this place, which is sad because we DO do great things for our students.

    Advice to Management

Managers should be required to have training in management. They should also actually know how to do their jobs. Employees should be able to do anonymous 360 reviews on managers or at least ask HR for help with bad managers. We keep losing good people.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. At least they loaned me a pc and a smartphone.
    2. Some faculty get lots of creative freedom to design their course curriculum.
    3. The disability office does a great job guiding and supporting faculty.

    Cons

    1. Most faculty don't have offices, and are forced to have confidential meetings with students about grades in open public spaces.
    2. Many adjuncts have had some/all of their classes cancelled with no warning a few days before the semester begins.
    3. Admissions lets almost anyone in. This means students are uniquely unmotivated and lazy, even for college students. In my class attendance is mandatory; on a good day 50% bother to show up.
    4. There is no job security. Tenure does not exist. Adjuncts have to reapply every semester or school year. This creates a high turnover and leads to problem #5.
    5. There's a lack of organization in the faculty/administrative structure. Some jobs never get done. Others get done twice. Responsibilities are up in the air.

    Advice to Management

Raise the admission standards for students. Offer more opportunities for advancement. Give us health insurance plans.

    Pros

Don't get me wrong, the people at GGC are great, the mission and vision is great and being such a small staff means you get the chance to take on a lot of new challenges. Good benefits just like any other university job. Great president.

    Cons

Small staff means more work for everyone and it doesn't always pay off. Hardy anyone gets raises and there is no real career track. High staff turnover means you will start a project with someone and they will leave the college, leaving you back to square one. Pay is not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Communication between departments is a real problem that needs to be addressed. More would get done if departments didn't keep to themselves.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College (Less than a year)

    Pros

As a peer tutor while you're studying, it helps you retain as well as learn new skills as you get to help students taking the same classes you've already taken, but with different professors.

You make many friends in long run as you work with variety of people.

It's a good opportunity to develop your interpersonal as well as communication skills.

It helps you understand looking at the things from different eyes.

Work-environment is really fun as everyone behaves friendly with you, regardless of your experience and expertise.

    Cons

It is demanding job as it requires you to be spontaneous. Sometimes you're dealing with problems you have never seen or dealt before.

    Advice to Management

Some more technical advancement should be implemented in terms of online help for students under optimum supervision to maintain integrity.

I have been working at Georgia Gwinnett College part-time

    Pros

The job is super easy. Set your own hours, come in when you want. Nice coworkers. Independent, relaxed, work environment. It is better than nothing. Would recommend it.

    Cons

It is boring, mundane, confusing work. Cluttered, cold, depressing office. Mostly waiting watching time go by. Things could be done way better but they are not. Would not work here ever.

    Advice to Management

Get organized. Cooperate better with sister departments. Fight for a renovated office. Don't allow yourself to be pushed around by slackers in other departments.

    Pros

Can work from home, decent benefits, plenty of PTO.

    Cons

Staff has been running on a skeleton crew for several years now. Expected to put in a lot of hours to keep things running. Sometimes it feels like staff are not treated as well as faculty or athletics staff. Good luck trying to find parking.

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff, make more staff parking spaces.

    Pros

Great team environment excellent training and is a great department to gain a massive amount of technical knowledge.

    Cons

Every day is a new experience when dealing with the technical field. Therefore the cons are slim to non because you are still learning.

    Advice to Management

Management does an excellent job preparing the student workers, and allowing them to ask questions and providing feedback.
