I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Amazing company business philosophy. Market-Based Management and the company's commitment to excellence provides a maximum growth and development opportunity.

People are great, willing to work with you, help you and challenge your thought processes and ideas to foster the best knowledge and the greatest return from a personal perspective in a fulfilling environment, and also provide business growth that is constantly surpassing its last projections.

    Cons

Silos exist between business groups, and often duplication of efforts are an unfortunate consequence.

    Advice to Management

Keep moving Market-Based Management and the Five Dimensions deeper into the organization and foster development and continuous improvement from a business and personal level that consistently challenges and provides fulfillment in new and creative ways to the business as well as the employees.

    Pros

MBM Culture is great, 90% of people working here want to help you learn and succeed and will go out of their way to help.

    Cons

With every large organization, you get some politics and differences across groups in the company. Most seem like very good groups to work for.

    Pros

Great Koch Industries company with unique Market Based Management philosophy and culture, meaningful roles that truly contribute to creating value for society, respectful diverse enthusiastic committed professional and fun colleagues and based in the attractive city of Atlanta.

    Cons

Not a good company for people who are not entrepreneurial self starters and/or those expecting pre-determined standardized approaches to roles, careers, training and compensation. Almost everything is driven by and/or tailored to the individual employee.

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The culture overall seems positive, good people with good values and a desire to succeed. There is a strong focus on compliance and integrity in all professional areas and that is a welcome change versus some other companies I've dealt with in matters of regulatory compliance. I've seen some positive changes over my tenure related to offering some of the perks seen with other more progressive companies (work from home, casual days, product discounts, team building activities, etc.)

    Cons

"Very large organization" syndrome. It's often hard to get anything done, get anything approved, or know who to talk to about an issue as there are so many people, roles are constantly changing and no good way to navigate your way through it all.

    Advice to Management

Continue to look for ways to set GP apart from its competitors and advertise those strengths more aggressively to attract the right talent.

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good balance between work and life.
    - Constant feedback from colleagues and management.
    - Invests heavily in new technologies and upgrades.
    - Centrally located to transit.
    - Competitive 401(k) matching.
    - Tuition reimbursement.
    - Exposure to a wide array of technology.

    Cons

    - Legacy employees who don't cooperate with other teams and operate in silos.
    - Slow to change and adapt technologies across the enterprise.
    - Slightly under market compensation.
    - Projects or high priority items occasionally destroy my former 'Pro' of a good work life balance. They're sparse and it is an ebb and flow kind of situation.
    - Owned by the Koch brothers, and they push their political beliefs on employees far too often.
    - Some in upper management are short sited, and combative.

    Advice to Management

Legacy employees who don't adapt to the MBM culture need to be terminated. Compensation for highly skilled workers needs to be more competitive, and aligned to market trends. Too many contract workers in the IT department. Too many chiefs to make enterprise wide decisions regarding technological advancements.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - incredibly talented people
    - open to new ways of doing things
    - freedom to get the job done (not micromanaged)
    - decentralized decision making
    - HQ location + amenities
    - good work/life balance

    Cons

    - MBM philosophy isn't well adopted.

    - Despite being praised as a high performer with excellent reviews, and rewarded with several raises and bonuses, I was a number to them in the end and my job was eliminated.

    - Severance was one week per year.

    - 401k vests at 3 years. There is no partial vestment; it's all or nothing.

    Advice to Management

If you're going to "talk the MBM talk" then you should "walk the MBM walk". People are not numbers if the MBM philosophy works.
