I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable product, well funded operations, strong safety culture.
Company is owned by Koch and has a very consistent company culture which is defined by their guiding principles. It is very clear that unlike many companies mission statements which get reviewed periodically as an exercise that employees from top to bottom are expected to create value, and deal with respect and humility towards others.
Charles Koch is an excellent guide for the company, being privately held allows the company to focus on long term value instead of the next quarterly earnings report.

    Cons

It is a manufacturing environment with round the clock operation and can sometimes require long hours and/or weekend work. Generally able to compensate for this by schedule flexibility at other times.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I got to work on a large variety of projects, including supporting several large capital projects. I really appreciated the flexibility I had to work on different projects and work independently as an intern. The mentors and management I had were very helpful and good to work with. I many of the employees were really encouraging and intelligent people, which made the experience enjoyable.

    Cons

They were regularly undermanned, which meant many of the shift workers put in a lot of overtime. You could see that wore on a lot of people, and people got disgruntled because things didn't change quickly enough when they voiced a need for change.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits and pay
Good structure--Roles. Responsibilities & Expectations helpful

    Cons

The culture is old school. Pay your dues, I need to see you to believe you're working, etc.
Very little diversity-- age, race and especially gender
The company is too large to be agile in their commitment to innovation and progress
Approval process moves bottom up. Makes it very difficult for things to get done because if someone in upper management doesn't approve, the process starts over
Older employees adopt the mentality of making fun of millennial/gen z employees. Love to complain of laziness, entitlement, etc. and then wonder why they have trouble attracting and retaining young, fresh talent
I was consistently told to "keep my head down" and don't work too hard. There is a culture of "everybody play nice, do the bare minimum and collect your paycheck"

    Advice to Management

This company needs to revisit their commitment to diversity in the workplace and implement a zero-tolerance policy for age discrimination. Promote more women and people of color to leadership roles, especially in technical fields.
Have yearly conversations with employees to ensure no one is "phoning it in".

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Above average starting salary, and they do promote a good culture (MBM) .

    Cons

Don't count on getting a raise no matter how much money you save the company or do for them. ZERO training. Outdated resources, too many employees that are just going through the motion. (Meaning you need to pick-up the slack of others)

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Invest in your employees or they will find a company who will.
