    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits are OK. Ample time off offered but it can never be used.

    Cons

Long Hours, on-call 24X7. Anytime there was a production problem the expectation was that you were on-site. No work/life balance -- all work with phone calls all day and night including weekends and when on vacation.

    Advice to Management

Respect the workers, they are not indentured slaves. Do not expect people to be at you beck and call- they have a life too.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    • Convenient location from the MARTA downtown ATL. Nice views from the building.
    • Compensation starts of good, but you won't see a raise after that.

    Cons

    • Georgia-Pacific is a large mom & pop store, pretending to be Procter & Gamble, but failing big time while trying. 'GP' will probably be several levels beneath what is considered best in class in the CPG industry.
    • Non-existent professional environment. You will find many colleagues with little to no experience in your field due to cronyism. Hiring and promotions are based on relationships, not experience.
    • Management (especially in consumer brands) is clueless, without vision, strategy, analytical/critical thinking, and expertise. Expect inconsistent plans and directions
    • Mediocrity is highly celebrated, critical thinking frowned upon. Don't try to improve inefficient processes or suggest new ideas. You will face a significant pushback (even punishment) from colleagues and superiors who prefer to remain in the comfort zone. This is the main reason why some people stay for so long at Georgia-Pacific. High performers are leaving after a short time, the rest tries everything not to be challenged (and is very successful doing so)
    • There is no long-term strategy for people retention. Huge lack of employee development.
    • Benefits are a (bad) joke
    • The pseudo management theory (Market Based Management) is a joke. Even the few meaningful parts of MBM are not implemented.

    Advice to Management

Change upper and middle management and replace it with real professionals.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive pay and benefits

    Cons

MBM is talked a lot, but not practiced as intended by Mr. Koch.

    Advice to Management

Lead the effort to reduce the multiple reports due to corporate. This takes so much time from Finance, as well as mill management. Value creation would be greatly enhanced with just this one change.

    I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time

    Pros

Decent Pay and Benefits and as much overtime as you could possibly want, they'll work you 24/7 if you want it.

    Cons

Forces you to work 12+hours a day 6-7 days a week!!! You can not have a home life or time for family. On a point system.

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

401k contribution is still above the industry average.

    Cons

I wish I could check a negative star rating. Employees are told lies at their orientation about the amount of money they can earn, and their potential for advancement and growth. HR encourages a culture of telling on your fellow co-workers which has damaged the company greatly. HR and management will bold face lie to their employees to get what they want. When confronted they act like they know nothing and doing the right thing is out of their control.

    Advice to Management

Georgia Pacific used to have a great reputation, but has become a company that is having a hard time keeping their employees. The Guiding Principals sound good, but they need be lived out and encouraged by management. Charles Koch needs to participate and direct a correct and proper culture or GP's reputation will mean nothing. Word of mouth contributes greatly to people wanting to purchase your products. I know I will not spend my hard earned money supporting a company that has almost no integrity and functions in a dis-honest manner.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time

    Pros

Solid maintenance department when given an opportunity to do their jobs, hourly and salary. Good Shipping department, Hourly.

    Cons

Zero integrity, Minimum Compliance, Value Creation by sacrificing quality and sustainability, Customer focus on what excuse will work this week, Change Management defined by changing management often, Humility and Respect demanded but not given,

    Advice to Management

Read the book and hold yourselves accountable

    Pros

There are some great people to work with in the salaried and hourly ranks. The pay is acceptable for the area. The mill used to be (and could be again) one of the flagships of GP.

    Cons

The management hides their indiscretions behind the veneer of MBM Principals. They will talk about integrity and then lay off a third of the salary work force with no warning (August 2016). The union tends to write grievances as a tool to further their cause, The mill is quickly on its way to being on of the worst managed paper mills in the country, The turnover rate is very high, with most of the high value, high performing, knowledgeable workers leaving for better jobs.

    Advice to Management

    Bring back Tim Crawford.

Decent pay until bought by the Koch Brothers!!!! Pension was good if hired before 2014. Hired after that you get no pension!!!
