    Pros

    Advice to Management

You need to learn how to distribute the work equal and not just load up a certain few.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They offer competitive compensation to attract talent for technical and professional roles.
They were supportive of personal and technical development.
At the time the lumber division was investing capital to improve OEE at many facilities that had not been invested in since before 2008 downturn.

    Cons

Market Based Management is a great operating principal for an organization.
Not good unified effort within divisions and company wide to apply reliability best practices.
Many legacy GP and new acquisition sites lack good foundation in MBM to really make the culture changes to align with parent company Koch Inc.
Many locations are remote requiring considerable commute if employee/family desire is to be closer to bigger city conveniences and desired school districts. Remote locations contribute to difficulty finding and retaining talent. Compensation does not always increase with changing and increasing responsibility and expectations, bonuses are subjective. Benefits & Health Care are mediocre (thanks affordable care act).

    Advice to Management

There is still opportunity to broaden the application of MBM to remote legacy GP locations.
Consider the sacrifices salaried employees are making when working long hours, weekends and traveling to help implement improvement.

    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Daily production meetings to keep communication current between all departments; logistics, production, sales, quality, environmental, health and safety, scheduling, accounting, customer service, plant manager and general manager.

    Cons

Upper management did not deal well with any kind of conflict or resolution. Constant turnover in key management positions. New management did not care about the existing culture.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be consistent in goals and objectives and culture when hiring/replacing key players; otherwise, it nurtures low moral and employees get discouraged over time.

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is better entry level than any other place 75k for Engineers right out of college and you can ask for 80k-85k if you Coop there.

    Cons

Typical manufacturing bs you have to deal with. Upper management needs to make changes or you will continue to see young engineers come for the salary and bonus and leave after a year. ( If you stay a year you dont have to pay back your signing bonus )

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very good benefits. Lots of perks. Working from home program. Free product. Peer recognition with cafeteria coupons and product. Flex scheduling. Great ergonomic workstations but bad if you are sensitive to lighting. Yearly Customer Service appreciation week including awards banquet and gifts. Nice activities for team building. Generally a friendly and caring department.

    Cons

NO RAISES. MBM is a great idea but only an idea. No room for advancement. Favoritism and nepotism throughout the company. Only the favorites are given opportunities for projects and promotions. Hard work, meeting or exceeding quotas, seniority, skills, desire to learn and education mean nothing in decision making. Nit picky in performance reviews. Micromanagement by some managers and others are not connected to their people. Some cliques that can be catty. Double standards with favorites and everyone else. Favorites can be rude and get away with it. New hires compensated more than senior employees and sometimes given an extra week of vacation. Above average secrecy with management.

    Advice to Management

The title was changed from CSR to OLS. Do not let corporate take away customer service. Stop pushing for terms and conditions....get back to listening, negotiating and servicing customers to make them happy instead of only satisfied. Practice what is preached about talents and virtues. Take off the blinders and give others a chance.
