I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Amazing company business philosophy. Market-Based Management and the company's commitment to excellence provides a maximum growth and development opportunity.

People are great, willing to work with you, help you and challenge your thought processes and ideas to foster the best knowledge and the greatest return from a personal perspective in a fulfilling environment, and also provide business growth that is constantly surpassing its last projections.

    Cons

Silos exist between business groups, and often duplication of efforts are an unfortunate consequence.

    Advice to Management

Keep moving Market-Based Management and the Five Dimensions deeper into the organization and foster development and continuous improvement from a business and personal level that consistently challenges and provides fulfillment in new and creative ways to the business as well as the employees.

    Pros

GP is a great company from my personal experience. I started as a student and have grown to high profile accounts very quickly. If you live by the MBM Principals, hard work will pay off and get you to where you want to be. This is a company that is always looking to hire from within the company. To allow people to grow. Managers look to help their employees to develop a career path that is best for them.

    Cons

Minor things, but nothing major as it is truly a good company.

    I have been working at Georgia-Pacific full-time

    Pros

Some good coworkers. Opportunities to advance if you're willing to make lateral moves to other locales. Market Based Management sounds like a great philosophy.

    Cons

MBM is not seen in action by most. The Good Ol' Boy network thrives and meritocracy is an unknown conception. Pay raises/bonuses are VERY rare, so get what you can when first hired and don't expect it to increase. Too many complacent longer-term employees.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond your immediate reports and understand who adds real value and treat them appropriately. Cut some layers of red tape and let the company thrive. Current structure is WAY too top heavy.
