    I worked at Georgia-Pacific full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Decent pay, not many layoffs.

    Cons

Benefits went down, they have a merit system in place, and after 3 events you are fired. It can be late for work (more than 3 minutes late), a safety offence (like having hair touching your collar), or not responding to a phone call.

    Advice to Management

    Get better people minded staff.

I have been working at Georgia-Pacific (More than a year)

    Pros

When applied the mbm culture is great

    Cons

Micromanagers, really disfunctional marketing department. Upper management is painful to work with- no guidance, no transparency on how to improve work. Improve your own team dynamics in the marketing leadership and the rest of the department will improve

    Advice to Management

When you know leaders are a problem to their own peers, divisions, and health if the organization, get rid of them.

    Pros

You should work here only if you are starving to death.

    Cons

Since being acquired by Koch 11 years ago, GP has been in a death spiral. Working conditions, morale, safety, etc. have all taken a huge hit. The company is working hard to replace everyone currently employed there with cheaper employees with no pension.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to someone interested in making paper.

    Pros

Some good coworkers. Opportunities to advance if you're willing to make lateral moves to other locales. Market Based Management sounds like a great philosophy.

    Cons

MBM is not seen in action by most. The Good Ol' Boy network thrives and meritocracy is an unknown conception. Pay raises/bonuses are VERY rare, so get what you can when first hired and don't expect it to increase. Too many complacent longer-term employees.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond your immediate reports and understand who adds real value and treat them appropriately. Cut some layers of red tape and let the company thrive. Current structure is WAY too top heavy.

    Pros

Culture varies from site to site

    Cons

Salaries are bench marked at 50 percentile - bonus structure is the preferred method of allocating $$ versus base salary.
