I have been working at Gerdau Long Steel North America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good People to work with in the office environment. Work load is sufficient to keep you busy, but not overwhelming. Many locations across the U.S.

    Cons

Upward Mobility in Estimating does not exist. Starting Pay is not very high. Upper management does not communicated well to the every-day employee. Possible Buy-Out by a competitor in the near future.

    Advice to Management

Keep the employees up to date on the happenings of the company. Have a more family-friendly atmosphere. Do more in the community to give back.

    Pros

Management are taking the company to the ground. They don't listen to their employees on how to improve productions. Acting they know everything but clearly they don't.
There are a lot of good workers there being with a company for years; and haven't received a decent raised. Majority of the managers do a lot of discrimination and do favoritism based on your skin color or background. They will terminated a minority in a heart beat, but will protect a white employee when they make a mistake.
This company needs to be under investigation on how they treat their employers.

    Cons

No support by the facilitator and HR
Lot of favoritism to white employees
Expect you to come to work on your days off or be threat to be terminated
    No raises
    Lots of unnecessary meetings
    Stay away

I have been working at Gerdau Long Steel North America full-time

    Pros

I had a nice parking location

    Cons

Fraud Corruption EVERYWHERE HERE… Steer Clear as this is at all levels of this location…. They work in a Net work and will destroy anyone that might expose them or their corruption. Because this branches across multiple department’s and levels of management, they keep it hidden but it is most definitely there. The Maintenance Department is the catalyst for all of it.

    Advice to Management

Traceability, Audit, FROM THE TOP DOWN

    Pros

Good salary. You can make decisions with too much red tap for small projects.

    Cons

Dirty, hot, can be dangerous. Company is struggling financially and is currently reducing headcount. Everyone can make the own decisions on small projects which can cause headaches for everyone.

    Advice to Management

No advice. They know everything already.

    Pros

    Great people to work with!

    Cons

Job security, lack of job growth for most.

    Advice to Management

Make a plan and stick with it. It does not give employees a clear direction.

Open up opportunities to all, rather than promoting a select few.

I have been working at Gerdau Long Steel North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are not any from my point of view

    Cons

The company is a joke, some people work hard because of their ethics and then you have those that do absolutely nothing and what is said by the managers, nothing. The managers want you to shut up and work harder for those that do nothing and they reward the lazy ones by not writing them up or making them do anything, they work around them and for the hard workers they look at you to pull all the weight and when you get to a point you decided not too they want to write you up.. They have people running things that no nothing and I mean nothing, they go by their feelings on making decision. These people fuss about them putting people in charge because they have education, well I rather have an educated person who can learn something then a uneducated person who thinks they know everything. They run the business like they run their lives and this is with very little thought process. That is why the company has been going down the drain for years and no one bother to stop it because all the managers cover each other and put in position those whom they knew would go along with their antics, now that the company is taking a nose dive, they have the audacity to wonder why. They judge everyone the same way when it comes to evaluation. The person next to you can sit in breakroom most of the shift, sleep on the job but they will get the same evaluation as you because they clocked in. There is no incentive to do better then the next man and promotions, another joke, it is about who you know, not what you know and that is sad because some very good workers get overlooked because of this.

    Advice to Management

Be managers and not friends to each other by doing things for certain people because you like them and not doing for others you do not like. Stop showing favoritism, although I know that will never happen. Make the lazy ones start working, if they can no longer do the job they are required to do, then show them the door, give them their fair warnings, but make it be known you are not play.
